Family Holidays

Calas de Mallorca holidays are a bit like a ‘buy one, get a few free’ deal, thanks to three limestone coves – Cala Domingos Gran, Cala Domingos Petit and Cala Antena. The cliffside commercial centre is practically a purpose-built playground, thanks to its lively nightlife scene, while the coastal promenade links you to the nearby beaches. And with 30°C summer temperatures and a 2.5-hour flight time from the UK, it’s no wonder this place is popular with Brits…

What makes Calas de Mallorca family friendly?

You can’t go wrong with this purpose-built holiday destination if you’re going away with the whole gang. Calas de Mallorca is full of young family activities, with a funfair, crazy golf and bike rental up for grabs. The scenery makes it ideal for couples’ breaks, too. It’s perched on a rocky headland that overlooks Majorca’s southeast coastline, so romantic vistas aren’t hard to come by. And who says you can’t join in with the kid-friendly stuff?

Beaches in Calas de Mallorca

The phrase ‘great things come in small packages’ rings true for Calas de Mallorca’s pocket-sized swathe, Cala Domingos Gran. It’s no more than 100 metres long, and it’s one of the local beaches with Blue Flag status, where you can go water-skiing. Fine-grained Cala Domingos Petit is over the headland, and offers another sunbathing spot when the shoreline gets a bit crowded. Follow the Mediterranean coastal path to Cala Antena, and you’ll wind up in a cosy cove that’s also served by a road train. Cala Murada’s nearby, as well. In summer, you can expect a toasty 26°C sea temperature here.

Calas de Mallorca town centre

Away from the seaside, Calas de Mallorca has a nice little town that’s easy on the eyes and the feet. The pedestrian-friendly commercial hub or Centro Commercial lets you stroll around local boutiques and beach accessory markets, before pausing for a bite to eat at one of the Spanish tapas bars or international pizzerias. Top tip – look out for ‘menu del dia’ or ‘menu of the day’ lunch deals. They often include a starter, main and a dessert for a low fixed price, so they’re ideal if you’re on a budget-friendly retreat. There are a few nightlife venues here, too.

Daytrips from Calas de Mallorca

Got a few Majorcan east coast excursions on your travel list? Calas de Mallorca makes a great base. The Caves of Drach limestone chambers are just a 20-minute drive away, and it’s about the same distance to the Porto Cristo Marina, where you’ll find a scattering of cosmopolitan eateries. Cala Figuera, a picturesque fishing village in the south of the island, is around a 30-minute drive away, just beyond Mondragó Nature Park. You can learn about the Manacor pearl industry near Porto Colom, too, and shop for souvenirs at Felanitx market on Sundays.
