View All DealsHolidays to Calas de Mallorca line up a good mix of bars and restaurants, plenty for little ones, and a trio of sandy beaches.
Calas de Mallorca's a purpose-built resort, with most of its apartments and hotels standing tall on a rocky headland overlooking Majorca’s south-east coast. It’s been around since the Sixties, so it knows a thing or two about putting on a good holiday and, in particular, catering to young families. There are play areas, a funfair, crazy golf, and bikes for hire. That’s before you even get to the beaches.
Calas de Mallorca has claimed a row of pocket-sized sandy beaches. First in line is Cala Domingos Gran. It’s no more than 100 metres long, but it’s got Blue Flag status, a row of beachside cafés and bars, and watersports like pedalos and water-skiing. When it gets too busy, fine-grained Cala Domingos Petit is over the headland. Cala Antena sits snug in the next bay along, and a coastal path connects the trio. For tired or little legs, a road train trundles a regular route between them.
As well as being easy on the eye, the town is easy on the feet. Nowhere’s too out of the way. The commercial centre is the hub, and it’s ringed by shops. We’re talking local boutiques and small supermarkets, and a market selling beach accessories and toys. Plus, there are bars and clubs, and family-friendly restaurants. The line-up features a clutch of Spain's tried-and-tested tapas bars, but also includes pizzerias, and Chinese and Indian eateries.
Calas de Mallorca makes a great base for visiting other places with an east coast address. It’s only a 20-minute drive to the massive limestone chambers and underground lake at the Caves of Drach. Porto Cristo’s cosmopolitan restaurants and smart marina are a little further on. To the south, meanwhile, picturesque Cala Figuera is just over half an hour's drive away, just beyond the nature park of Mondragó.
