Cala Millor, Majorca

Holidays to Cala Millor, on Majorca’s rugged north-east coast, give you the full package resort experience. With a Blue Flag sandy beach, over 300 days of sunshine per year, a high-energy Balearic island vibe and the fishing village of Cala Bona next door, it’s a true all-rounder.

A relaxed Majorcan resort

Cala Millor really knows how to cut loose. The town’s plotted on a six-kilometre stretch of coastline in Majorca’s Llevant region. Souvenir shopping, cycling and roller skating are among the top things to do here, and of course, you’ve got a sandy beach to chill out on – it’s backed by a palm-shaded promenade where you’ll find a bunch of casual beach shacks called chiringuitos. There’s a lively Mediterranean atmosphere, but if you fancy something a little quieter, you can follow the coastal path to nearby Cala Bona, which has a little harbour and a quieter collection of bars and eateries.

Blue Flag beach

The showstopper in Cala Millor is its Blue Flag-winning stretch of flaxen sand in a wide, sheltered bay, which is topped and tailed by two rocky headlands. Here, you’ve got straw sunshades, a calm sea for family friendly paddling, and great sand for bucket and spade action, so just about all the holiday must-haves are covered. The stellar line-up of watersports includes a windsurfing and parasailing school, too.

Shopping and nightlife

A pedestrianised shopping zone sits right behind the seafront, and it’s full of shops selling the likes of clothes and traditional Balearic leather goods. There’s a tonne of international dining options, beach clubs and bars where you can sip sunset cocktails by the seafront, too. And if you’re here in September, you might catch the Tourist Festival, which brings street parties, live music, fireworks and tapas tastings to Cala Millor and Cala Bona. Speaking of festivals, another is the Mallorca Hot Air Balloon Festival, which is held in October 15 minutes’ drive away in Capdepera – with over 25 balloons taking to the skies, it’s a real spectacle. A year-round daytrip option is S’Illot. This town’s best-known for its archaeological structures, and it’s only 10 minutes away by car.

Family friendly adventures

Families will have a field day here. Fantasy Park has bouncy castles and trampolines, and there’s a go-kart track just down the road. Horseback trekking, zoo visits, and trips to nearby caves – the Caves of Hams and the Cuevas del Drach – are also on the cards. If you’re more of a sporty bunch, you can make use of the region’s stellar golf courses, or hire bikes and put foot to pedal along the Via Verda cycling route. Or, keep things cultured with a mooch around Capdepera Castle.
