Caimari holidays

Alcudia bay, Majorca

Caimari holidays land you at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range and a short drive from Alcudia’s sandy coast.

Mountain village

This sleepy village is made up of a cluster of rustic stone houses right at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. It’s about a 30-minute drive away from Alcudia’s sandy coast, so beach days are on the cards, too. Take one look at the landscape around here, and you’ll notice it’s covered in bright-green olive trees. So, it’ll come as no surprise that Caimari’s best known for producing olive oil, which you’ll find bottled up in shops all over Majorca. When you stay here, you can relax and enjoy the countryside, or get your walking boots on for a hike up in the olive-and-almond tree-covered mountains.

Blue Flag beaches

Majorca’s biggest beach resort, Alcudia, is half an hour down the road. The whole of the coast is smothered in sand and edged with shallow water, which is ideal for paddling in, and a series of canals wind their way around hotels and restaurants. Head for Playa de Alcudia, and you’ll land on a three-and-a-half-kilometre Blue Flag stretch where you can try your hand at watersports like kayaking and paddleboarding. Plus, if you stay on the side towards Playa de Muro, you’ll be more likely to bag yourself a quieter sunbathing spot.

Countryside climbs

You’ve got plenty of hiking routes to choose from here – there are some more challenging ones in the mountains, and other easier tracks where you can walk amongst the olive and almond trees. Comuna de Caimari is a seven-kilometre circular route. It takes you up into the mountain tops of Puig de sa Creu, and trails back to the upper part of Caimari, lining up panoramic views of the village’s stone houses. For a more laidback stroll, there’s the 11-kilometre Plain of Selva route. This one’s a flatter walk through villages and hamlets woven between fields of almond trees, drystone walls and traditional farmhouses. If cycling’s more your speed, there are lots of mountain bike routes around the mountain range, too.

Journey back to ancient times

If you fancy a glimpse of this place’s history, you can take a free trip to the Ethnological Park Exhibition, which is just on the outskirts of the village. It’s an open-air museum which showcases artifacts, including the tools and traps that hunters living in the Tramuntana mountains used to catch their daily meals. You’ll also get to look inside a typical hunting cabin.
