Set about a twenty minute walk out of the centre of Funchal up a steep slope in a residential area, this hotel is a true oasis from the bustle of the town. The actual hotel is an old Manor House set in its own stunning gardens with a large swimming pool. The rooms are a good size with all of the facilities that you would expect of a 5* hotel and all have excellent views over the gardens and the hillside. What really sets this hotel apart from other top class hotels that we have stayed at is the quality of the staff who really do go above and beyond what you would normally expect to ensure that you get all you want from your holiday.More
A very special birthday
I booked the hotel as a birthday surprise for my wife and it proved an inspired choice. The standard of the room, the amenities, the staff and the gardens were all superb. This was by some way the best hotel we have ever stayed in. Breakfast was wonderful in the Pink Room but especially outside. We were on the top floor, room 309, with a great view of the garden, the sea beyond and the hill looking up to Monte at the side.Quite breathtaking. The walk back up the very steep hill from town is fine after the sun goes down but not really an option during the heat of the day. Use the excellent courtesy bus instead - when it was full on booking they even laid on a special one for us. If you want to take a bus tour over the mountains rather than drive the somewhat tortuous roads then the company recommended by the hotel was great for us. So if you are going to this beautiful island I would look no further than the Quinta. .More
I wanted a quiet place (stayed for 6 nights) before joing a walking tour.
Can't remember my room number but I was on the first floor with a terrace overlooking the garden. Rooms were very spacious. The staff was so friendly and helpful--I had exceptional service. The bartender was amazing (Erman?) with great drinks and beautifully carved carrot butterflies and dragonflies! The breakfast was good (loved eating outdoors) and I enjoyed the dinners I ate there. Loved the lamb bread. I loved the pool. I had not trouble with insects.More
It is unlikely that one will ever stay in a better hotel than this. It is certain that we never have. It is probably foolish to alert people to the delights of QJDL, as it reduces our chances of coming again, but it would be selfish not to inform people to use a stay here as another jewel in their holiday treasure chest. The staff are universally delightful, the food is consistently superb, the ambiance is quite unique, and the gardens are a visual masterpiece. Add a vast 1.35 m deep pool with terrace and gardens to park sun-beds on at will and at random, and you are getting very close to something paradisaical. Given that our stay coincided with considerable airline disruption (both climatic and financial) the way in which the hotel was able to assist stranded guests was praiseworthy in extreme. Nothing is too much trouble, anything is possible, and everything is beautifully managed. Next time we come we may, just may, venture outside the door a little bit more than we did and have a longer look at Madeira. More
Beautiful hotel in the heart of funchal, madeira
A really beautiful hotel, stunning gardens and breathtakingly beautiful view of the mountains. The staff are so welcoming, helpful and friendly which was greatly appreciated! They go out of their way to help and assist in any way they can. I would like to personally thank AdAlberto Dinis, Pedro, Paulo and Susanne for all of their help and advice with our itinerary. Andre at breakfast was so friendly with our toddler and very helpful!. It is a small hotel and you pay for quality. Colombo, the Galapagos tortoise, was the highlight! Our little one had a ton of fun playing in the garden and insisting on feeding Colombo bananas. Wish we had stayed longer but sadly all good things must come to an end. Madeira is such a gorgeous island with so much to see and we hope to return very soon! More
