Holidays to Sampieri give you a golden sandy beach and heaps of old Italian charm brought by local fishermen.
Sicilian seaside
Sampieri is a charming Italian village plotted on the southeast coast of Sicily. It’s the ideal spot for beach breaks, thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and old fishing village character. Think white-and-cream stone houses tucked down winding narrow alleys and royal-blue fishing boats bobbing about in the sea. Plus, although it’s quiet, there’s still a good supply of bars and restaurants to try.
Sand like gold dust
When beach days are calling, you’ve got a two-kilometre-long belt of fine golden sand backed by dunes and pine trees. It’s shielded by a bay which juts out into the sea, so the water’s pretty calm if you want to swim or snorkel. Speaking of the bay, it’s home to Sampieri’s most famous landmark – an old burnt down brickworks called the Fornace Penna, which was destroyed by a fire in the early 1900s and has now become Sampieri’s motif.
Saunter around Scicli
Scicli is a fairytale town just a 15-minute drive away that’s well worth a visit. It’s earnt the UNESCO stamp of approval thanks to its Baroque oldy-worldy feel. The stone buildings blend in with the mountainous rocky backdrop, and at night, you’ll see the town take on a magical yellow glow from the streetlights along the winding roads.
