Pozzallo holidays
Jump to sections
Pozzallo holidays serve up a quiet slice of Sicily's southern shore, where fresh-out-of-the-net seafood, ancient history and Blue Flag beaches are the three main ingredients.
Sicilian shorelines
Sugar-fine sand, crystal-clear water and a dusting of sea-view eateries – you’ll find all three at a lot of Pozzallo’s beaches. Sicily’s home to eight Blue Flag numbers, four of which you’ll find dotted along this town’s patch of coastline. The biggest one’s Pietre Nere Beach, which serves up over 900 metres of coffee-coloured sand for you to sink your toes into. The water here stays waist deep for the first 30 feet, as well, so it’s a great pick if you’ve got youngsters in tow.
Pirates, piazzas and Siracusa
History fans are well taken care of during a holiday to Pozzallo. Head to the waterfront and you’ll find the town’s signature landmark, Torre Cabrera. This 15th-century watchtower was once used to protect Pozzallo from pirates. These days, it’s a national monument, and you’re welcome to explore its inner rooms – they’re filled with photo exhibits about the area. Siracusa, the biggest city on Sicily’s south-east coast, is an hour's drive away, too. Here, you can tick off everything from pizzeria-filled Italian piazzas to a 2,500-year-old Greek amphitheatre.
Sail over to Malta
Breaks to Pozzallo offer up more than just Sicily’s show-stopping cities and landscapes. A whole other country’s at your fingertips, thanks to the town’s link to the island of Malta. A two-hour-long ferry ride from the port in Pozzallo can take you straight to the heart of Malta’s capital, Valletta. This entire place is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with Medieval palaces, museums and churches all nestled into its narrow, cobbled streets.
