Santa Teresa Gallura holidays

White-sand beaches, rugged landscapes and a traditional town centre – holidays to Santa Teresa Gallura pack plenty in.

Authentic and traditional

Santa Teresa Gallura’s set up for holidays which are a mix of laidback and lively. This cosy port town on Sardinia’s northernmost tip pairs pristine beaches and historical sights – like the 16th-century Longonsardo Tower – with a colourful town centre that comes to life in the summer months. And while the crowds may pick up pace when the sun’s out, this remains one of Sardinia’s more authentic and under-the-radar spots when it comes to tourism.

First-class beaches

Blue Flag beaches are dotted all around Sardinia’s coastline, and Santa Teresa Gallura’s no exception. There’s a whole handful within 20 minutes’ drive, but the nearest is much closer to home. In fact, you can stroll from the heart of the town centre to Rena Bianca beach in just five minutes. Its shallow aqua-blue waters and ice-white sands are backed up by a rugged rocky landscape which spills into the water and offers up excellent snorkelling spots.

A lively town centre

The town centre’s a smorgasbord of bars, restaurants, cafés and gelaterias, which are sprinkled among the multi-coloured, pastel buildings that help bring the place to life. The crowds play a big part, too. In the summertime, the town comes alive with visitors to the late-night bars and restaurants, which stay on the right side of rowdy. Most of the action revolves around the main square – Piazza Vittorio Emanuele I – which is a traditional meeting point for the locals.

Daytrips to Corsica

As Sardinia’s northernmost town, Santa Teresa Gallura doubles up as a gateway to the nearby French island of Corsica – you can even see its limestone cliffs from the edge of the coast. Ferries run throughout the day and the journey takes less than an hour, so trips are easily doable. If you do pop over, you’ll dock in the historical town of Bonifacio. Its charming old town and 9th-century citadel are two of its biggest talking points, as well as a picturesque, palm tree-lined harbour that’s sprinkled with bars and restaurants.
