Arbatax holidays

Holidays to Arbatax show you some of Sardinia’s specialities – think pristine beaches and authentic Italian restaurants.

Sand, sea and sights

Arbatax is plotted on a headland on Sardinia’s east coast, at the foot of Capo Bellavista. The hamlet’s split into two halves – the old town, where you’ll find restaurants, bars and a harbour, and the newer part, which is awash with hotels and holiday homes. The main draw, though, is the coastline – it’s a mix-and-match of sandy beaches and rugged rock formations.

Sunbathing spots

Despite its small size, Arbatax has a string of beaches up its sleeve. Riva de Ponente – by the marina – has been dubbed the best of the bunch, thanks to its powdery sands and gin-clear water. Head south, and you’ll find Spiaggia di Porto Frailis – a smaller, sandy stretch that’s covered with a dot-to-dot of colourful parasols in summer. And if you fancy a swim or a snorkelling session, there’s Spiaggia Cala Moresca – a rocky, crowd-free cove.

A hill with a view

When seen from north or south, Capo Bellavista looks a bit like an island – this rugged hill towers 150 metres above sea level, and is connected to the rest of Arbatax by a low-lying strip of land. You can’t miss it – just look out for the Liberty-style lighthouse at its peak. While you can’t walk all the way up to the lighthouse, the surrounding roads line up panoramic views of the jagged cliffs, the marina and the sea.
