Hotel Majestic Palace

Stayed at the Majestic Palace as part of a tour of the Amalfi Coast. First, there are stairs up to the lobby, no ramp for your luggage. No one came out to help, but in fairness to them, they would have if they saw us. The rooms are generous in size and while dated, very comfortable. The building has a marking of "1967" which is when I believe the bathrooms in the rooms are from. The tub is very high, and if you aren't familiar with the water pressure, if you turn it on full in the shower, the whole bathroom will get soaked! Water pressure was very high, lots of hot water, and the bathroom did the trick although it is extremely old. The pool area was great. Drinks at the bar are 10 Euros, plus 10 percent, quite high. I ordered a bloody mary, the bartender went through this big procedure, including using an eyedropper, to make it! It was sort of a show. Also, be prepared if your room faces the pool for music to be playing when you are trying to go to sleep. Doesn't seem to be any schedule as to when it gets shut off. The food----OMG, worse than my cafeteria in High School! I had breakfast and dinner included, you can get by with breakfast if you like cappuccino and coffee out of a vending machine, and a selection of cold cuts, cheeses, bread and some hot items. What they called bacon was cooked so much it was inedible, like planks of wood. Dinner was terrible! One night I ordered a pork which I'm sure my dog wouldn't eat. Looked like they baked it for about an hour and it was hard as a rock. Difficult to cut. They didn't ruin the pasta, but the quantities of food were minuscule. At dinner, there is a salad bar which is barely adequate. Also, the customer service or being welcomed by the wait staff does not exist. There iis a young waiter there who walked up to the table, no greeting, and said "You want drink?" The wait staff could care less if you are there, they are not welcoming, and generally are food delivery people. I would highly encourage you not to eat dinner as part of a board plan here, really really really bad. I needed a taxi for a short ride (3 blocks) one day, and the front desk called someone who charged me 14 Euros for three blocks. When I told them what happened, I got "well, it's Italy". Not acceptable when they called the gentleman that did this. So, the rooms are fine. Be prepared for bad food, overcharging for drinks, and an old bathroom. Only a couple of outlets in the rooms as well. If given a choice, I would not choose this property again.

The hotel Majestic Palace is a 4 star hotel that meets the grade. The room we had was large spacious facing the front of the hotel with a partial view of the pool. The staff were attentive and extremely polite. The hotel was immaculately clean and well maintained. Convenient to trains and busses and only a 20 minute stroll from Sorrento piazza Tasso. The beach is 5 mins walk. The hotel food at breakfast and dinner was Italian varied and never repeated. Very good. Local restaurants were of a high standard and also very good. This is not a holiday spot for families with young children. The pool is too deep for non swimmers and the foot paths and roads are cobbled and hilly and I saw no entertainment for them. Also not suitable for groups of young people it does not cater for ‘ pool volley ball’ or drinking games. This is an upmarket hotel that is semi formal.where men need shirts and slacks for dinner. The roof top bar is magnificent cocktails are supreme and the view is amazing. Not to be missed. The only complaint that I had was that the tiles on my balcony were cracked and the ceramic was coming off this meant I had to wear shoes on the balcony snd be careful not to bring the ceramics chips into the bedroom area. Out of 7 dats we had 2 days showery but 2 nights of thundering and lightning. Amazing. I would recommend this hotel highly.

I took my 11 year old for a week long holiday in Sorrento principally so we could visit Pompeii and Vesuvius. My son has autism so travelling with him can be a real challenge. However, staying at this hotel really helped us have a stress free stay. Our room was comfortable overlooking the beautiful large garden. Food was very good - we were on half board and there was plenty of breakfast choices and the evening meals we both enjoyed, putting on weight!! Pool lovely. Very good location walkable into both Sorrento and to the train station (for trips to Pompeii easily). Great trip. Hope to return.
