Of historical interest

Set slightly inland from Lake Garda, Castelnuovo is a small town between Peschiera and Lazise. There are many centuries of history in the authentic town so if you fancy taking some time to stroll around there's plenty to explore. Visit the local church, Madonna degli Angeli', the medieval tower 'Torre Viscontea', and the war memorial.

Rollercoaster Thrills

After an adrenaline rush? Castelnuovo is the ideal base for spending your days at Gardaland - one of Italy's most famous amusement parks. It's home to themed hotels so it's great for the whole family to enjoy the magic of the theme park after it closes. From shows that'll have you laughing out loud and rides that thrill, to the marine wonders of the Sea Life Aquarium – Gardaland has something for everyone. And as if that weren’t enough, just a few kilometres away you'll also find Canevaworld Resort – a huge waterpark – and Movieland, a theme park featuring rides based on your favourite films.

Small town to big cities

Close to Verona, Venice and Milan, if you’re after a break from the rides, and looking to explore beyond Lake Garda, you can catch a train to one of the nearby Italian cities. You’ll pass olive groves and rolling vineyards on your way, and within an hour or 2 you’ll be wandering through the city’s streets.

Beaches

Admire the view at Campanello

The Lido di Campanello is a scenic spot on the walk along the lakefront between Castelnuovo and Peschiera. There is a pebble beach and a small play area for children.

Relax at Ronchi

Sunbathe on the banks of the lake at Ronchi. Like most of the beaches on the lake, it’s a mix of pebbles and grass - there’s a bar so you can grab a drink and watch the waves lapping at the shore.

Bargain buys

The weekly market is the place to go if you're after something special to take home. It runs every Tuesday morning and sells all kinds – from clothes to jewellery to delicious, locally-produced food.

Lively evenings

Castelnuovo is more of a quiet town so if you’re looking for a something a bit more lively then head to the nearby towns of Peschiera or Lazise. During high season (15^th June to 10^th September) Gardaland is open until 11pm each day – so the fun can continue well after the sun sets.

Eating out

Castelnuovo has plenty of restaurants where you can sample the freshest, local Italian cuisine at its best. There is a range of restaurants within the Gardaland hotel complex or, when you want a change of scenery, take a walk or a short taxi ride to Castelnuovo centre and Peschiera. Gardaland itself has loads of themed restaurants to keep you going throughout the day.

Matka Family Gourmet Restaurant

Easy to reach on foot, this is within the grounds of the Gardaland hotel complex and a quality restaurant that also caters for the little ones - perfect for the whole family.

Traditional Trattoria Al Taolon

Located about a 20 minute walk or a short cab ride from the Gardaland hotels, at Al Taolon you can enjoy an authentic Italian mail that won't break the bank. Meals are prepared with fresh produce that you can pair with a bottle of their delicious house wine.

The best of British at the Bench Pub

Also in Castelnuovo centre, the Bench Pub will appeal to football fans but also to anyone who loves a good gourmet burger - try the mega Premier League-themed burgers and support your home team. The portions are huge so come with an appetite.

Getting about

Buses

There are free shuttle buses that run to Gardaland so the whole family can be on the rides in no time. Or catch a bus to the nearby villages of Lazise or Peschiera and explore another Lake Garda resort.

Ferries

To experience the lake from the water, head over to Peschiera (on the Gardaland shuttle bus) or Lazise where you can hop on a ferry and take a relaxing ride to the other towns around Lake Garda.

Trains

Peschiera train station is a short taxi ride from Castelnuovo or, alternatively, the Gardaland shuttle bus stops there. From the station you can get to famous Italian cities Verona (just half an hour away), Venice and Milan (both within a couple of hours).

On foot

There are some quiet, limited traffic roads which you can take to get to the centre of Castelnuovo. Here you may choose to visit the Madonna degli Angeli sanctuary.
