Holidays to Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi put you in a quiet hilltop town in the middle of two Amalfi Coast gems.
A town between two gulfs
You don’t need a perfect Italian accent for Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi – or ‘Saint Agatha on the Two Gulfs’ – to sound idyllic. This little hilltop town gets its name from its location, plumb in the middle of the Gulf of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno. As you can imagine, you get some pretty impressive views around here, especially if you climb to the Monastery of San Paolo’s tower, or ‘belvedere’. It looks out to the Amalfi Coast, and it dates back to the 1600s. There’s also a church in the main square – Santa Maria delle Grazie – which has a famous marble alter decorated with shiny mother of pearl and lapis lazuli stone.
Living la dolce vita
When you’re not ticking things off your must-see list, you’ve got plenty of opportunities to slow the pace. Stroll along boutique-lined streets, sip Aperol spritzes at aperitivo time and round off the day in one of the local eateries. You’ve got lots of little trattorias and even a Michelin-starred restaurant to pick from. Just be sure to try something citrussy – this place is known for growing juicy femminello ovale lemons, which add a zesty zing to seafood pasta dishes and syrup-soaked sponge cakes called delizia al limone.
Positano parties and Pompeii daytrips
If you want to stretch your legs, the Sirenuse Trail is well worth doing – it loops around valleys, olive groves and pine forests, with viewpoints at every corner. Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi is also just a 30-minute drive from places like Positano, famous for its pastel-coloured cliffside buildings and glitzy nightlife scene. Sorrento’s just as close, as well. Head there to sunbathe at boujie beach clubs or catch a ferry from the port and go celebrity-spotting on the glamorous island of Capri. History buffs can easily pencil in a trip to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, too. They’re only around an hour and a half’s drive away.
