One of the best beaches for families – and the longest unbroken stretch of sand on Italy’s Amalfi Coast – is in the town of Maiori. Backed by cafes, restaurants and shops, it’s the perfect place to base yourselves – especially when the little ones get peckish. To break up the day, you can also head to the Castle of San Nicola de Thoro Plano. It’s around a 30-minute walk from the beach and offers up fantastic views of the sea and the surrounding mountainside.

If you’re worrying about fussy eaters, Italy has children’s taste buds well and truly catered for. There’s everything from traditional pizzas and pasta dishes to gelato, aka ice cream, up for grabs.

Lace up your walking shoes

With well-marked trails and impressive countryside views, the Amalfi Coast is one of Italy’s best places to go hiking. Adults and older children can explore the Valle delle Ferriere trail above Amalfi Town, which takes around three hours to complete, while those looking for something shorter and less strenuous have the seafront promenades in Maiori, Amalfi and Minori to wander along.
