This was a cheap last minute break just to get a little sunshine before the end of the year, actually cheaper than staying in the UK. Self catering apartments just a short walk from the beach in Zante, Alykes. The family that owned the apartments were great, very friendly and welcoming and the rooms themselves were clean and spacious for two people, the kitchenette was a sink, fridge and two ringed electric hob, tbh not any use for anything, the shower had no rail, curtain and was in fact only knee high off the wall next to the toilet, the toilet run water all night but as one couple had their repaired making it louder we decided to just leave ours as it was. Food and Drinks were more expensive as expected at the bar than in town. Sheets were changed once in the week, towels twice. Floors not mopped, just a quick run round and then out. Lots of fine places to eat, 5 mins to nearest restaurant (pine cone ) 10 mins to the ones at the end of the road (Relax & Fidelio) both very good, but the best -& cheapest was next door to Fidelio’s, a little taverna where the guy lives their all year round, and is open all year round. As it was end of season nearly all shops had closed by the Tuesday of the week we were coming back, inc pubs and restaurants so for those staying until Friday there was just about nothing open at all. The beach was lovely and just a further 5 mins. Great for a short walk, or even staying on the main road and walking past a man made canal with loads of fish in to watch. I would go to Zante again, but wouldn’t stay at these apartments, it started off looking like a cheap break, very basic, but actually after adding everything up is quite expensive, no real facilities or entertainment it was fine for what it was, it was only two star and we didn’t expect much, which was just as well because we didn’t get much. Probably a good enough place to use as a base when you needed somewhere to put your head at night. The weather for October was great 27-30 deg every day, plenty of sun. Got a tan then back to the UK. Job done 👍
Won't come back

Just returned having had a week there. Rooms a bit tired, old fridge, two ring stove, bits of crockery and cutlery. We did not eat in but wouldn't have wanted to cook not enough plates etc. Twin beds with just a sheet, cold on an evening, so had to use blankets which were on top of wardrobe, made me wonder if they had ever been washed after each use. Probably not. Bedding and towels changed only once. Lots of sun beds around pool, but never saw the pool checked or cleaned. Snacks and drinks at the bar expensive. Beach a 20 mins walk away, lots of bar and restaurants. Would I stay here again. no
Much better than expected

Being 2* we were unsure what to expect but put it down to the fact that there was no lift in the main building. We were actually put in the annexe, in a front facing ground floor studio. This proved just perfect for us, we had a virtually new bedroom and bathroom, there were no dirty marks, cracks, mold or anything broken like some have reported about the main block. All the furniture was new and matching and we found the beds/mattresses new, clean and of good quality. There is a double wardrobe with about a dozen various coat hangers and two drawers underneath. A dressing table with two drawers and a stool. A shared bedside cabinet with three drawers. There is a large breakfast bar with two rattan high back dining chairs. A good quality electric kettle and a two ring hob, with a brand new fridge were also included. There was adequate mugs, glasses, plates, dishes and cutlery for breakfasts and snacks. There was a small tv on the wall but this was not mentioned in the description so was a bonus as we could watch World News to find out what was going on in the world. On the very good paved patio, there was a good round table with two matching chairs and a railing round three sides to hang your wet towels on. We had a large double-glazed door and the doors to the patio were also double-glazed and there were also outer shutters. We had lovely voile-type curtains on a modern curtain pole. There were two pillows to each bed, one soft and the other harder. On top of the wardrobe were four very thick and clean blankets. We found the air conditioning a must, yes it is expensive so you make your own choice. The safe was in the main block in the office, so you have to ask at the bar and one of the ladies accompany you with their second key. There was plenty of novels available from near the office or at the entrance to the annexe. Being only a few feet from the main road did prove noisey, even though we are elderly and hard of hearing! This was most noticeable late at night when the tearaways doing wheelies and cars chasing one another up to the next village made a heck of a noise. But this was the only negative for us and I have deducted one star in my rating because of this. The pool area is hosed down by the cleaners every morning, including the sun beds. The are dozens of beds sited around the pool and further up towards the garden if you want to be away from the pool. The beds are clean, comfortable and we did no see any that were broken or dirty. There are blue mattresses on most of them and there are some newer beds but we found that the mattresses, although much thicker, soaked up water and did not dry out by the next day so there were one or two people who got wet bottoms having sat down for only a minute or two. We ate in the bar area under large parasols. You could sit round the pool and eat at your sun bed but we preferred to move away from the pool and sit and watch whilst we ate. There is an extensive breakfast, snack and drinks menu with desserts too. The girls and lady who run and own the studios are very helpful and have good English. They react very positively to a friendly hello and thank you. We found the rep Steve vey friendly and helpful. The walk into Alykes, depending on how fast you walk, can take ten minutes. On the way there is a small family run supermarket, it is not big but sells a good variety of essentials. If you walk to the junction and turn left, the much bigger Montes supermarket and bakery is about 500 yards on your left. All in all, taking into account the road noise, we found this a lovely place to stay and would certainly visit again if we go to Alykes.
Not quite what I had in mind

I was looking forward to my holiday here as my first time to Zante. First impressions were nice until I entered my allocated apartment (Room 5). The fridge was disgusting, all the wire shelves were covered in rust. There was a hob for cooking on which was covered in baked on grease. The bathroom had a rusty soap dispenser on the shelf. The sockets for the tv/air conditioning were not properly fitted. There was a small old TV high up near the ceiling but no remote (thankfully I do not watch TV on holiday but no way could I reach it). I asked for a different room but was told there wasn't one, although people were coming and going all the time. Next morning I complained to the Thomson Rep who came to look and agreed with me but nothing was done. I ended up having to take the shelves out of the fridge and just use it for bottled water. Also the electricity was via key fob so when you were out for the day the fridge would not be on. Had I been a family who needed to cook.........well! The beds were clean and made each day but towels were only changed once in a week. Staff were friendly and the hotel was in a nice location for everywhere, but the state of hygiene let it down greatly. Since I came home I complained to Thomson, including sending photographs, but they sent me a standard letter indicating that the room was acceptable! I have since written to them again but have had no reply. I will not be holidaying with Thomson again. I would go back to Alykes but definitely not to Avra Studios.

We stayed here for a week. Where do i start ...the beds were single beds and not a double and are rock hard and we didnt have one good nights sleep the whole week. One pillow on each bed and a sheet and some itchy blankets stored on the wardrobe. The bathroom is an accident waiting to happen. The sink plug was jammed so nothing could drain out. The shower had a shower tray but no curtain or screen so the water goes all over the floor which is tiled with shiny smooth tiles and is dangerously slippy once wet. The kitchen had 2 hobs like a camping stove and no oven. Not sure how anyone could actually prepare a hot meal there. The fridge was really old and tatty and by the end of our stay it had stopped working completely. We got eatten alive by what we assume were mosquitos but could have been anything!!!. The people in the local super market and Iris bar were really nice and welcoming. We did find it really expensive to go self catering there and won't be repeating it again. The pool area is really nice but the pool is freezing cold water . The rep is no use what so ever he told us the wrong info for bus travel into zante town. As we had been to zante before he just said no point in telling you anything as you know it all!! If your looking for night time entertainment this is definitely not the place to go to.
