Koskinou holidays
Jump to sections
Holidays to Koskinou pair pretty Greek village life with a location close to Rhodes Town, Faliraki and Kalithea.
Rainbow-splashed Koskinou
Lemon sorbet-yellow, Louboutin-red, spring-green, and that classic Greek combo of white and blue… the pretty streets of the hilltop village of Koskinou are decked out in all the colours of an artist’s palette. It’s just a 15-minute drive south of Rhodes Town, and this inland labyrinth of cobbled streets, whitewashed squares and Greek tavernas is a peaceful spot that’s perfect for branching out into some of the livelier destinations on the island.
A history-soaked centre
Koskinou’s split into two halves. The newer part of the village is popular with families, and it’s where you’ll spot brightly painted buildings with etched doorways coated in trailing flowers and hanging baskets. The older part of Koskinou – known locally as the old village – is home to the Traditional House, a small museum of ceramics and handmade fabrics. There’s a 13th-century castle and pastel-tinted chapels that date back to the fourth century here, too.
Beach days in Kalithea
If you want to head to the coast, the nearest beach is just a five-minute drive from Koskinou. The popular town of Kalithea flaunts a string of sandy and rocky beaches, each peppered with sunloungers and lapped by clear shallow waters. It’s very family friendly, with dining spots and watersports at your fingertips.
Dip into Rhodes Town
A cab will get you to the Medieval centre of Rhodes Town in 15 minutes. Here, a well-preserved old town rubs up against a boutique-studded newer town, plus a long shingle beach. The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights is well worth a visit – this fortress ticks off towering walls, lofty turrets and Roman mosaics.
