Yadim Studios

This is an amazing place the family just can't do enough for you and make you feel so welcome. The rooms are basic but clean. The food is wonderful totally recommend the gyros platter but share it too much for 1. We will be back in the future

We have been visiting Skiathos for around 30 years, staying at many different places but this is our first holiday to the Yadim Studios so here's a true and honest review of our stay in June 2017. We stayed for 2 weeks and our choice was mainly based on location as the Yadim is beautifully placed between Aghia Paraskevi and Kolios which is accessed along the main road running along the south coast of the island. The road is extremely busy and the traffic has no regard for pedestrians plodding along the tiny footpath. At the time we were there we were disappointed to see no sunbeds on our favourite beach at Aghia Paraskevi and so used Kolios and Troulos most days paying 8 euros for two beds and a brolly for the day. Buses are frequent and cheap so no need to hire a car unless your accommodation is high up on the hills or you want to visit the tracks around the top of the island. Many good restaurants within easy reach of all the resorts and you would be well advised to try a different one each day, albeit the menus will probably be similar wherever you go. We liked Kipos and Maestrali in Aghia Paraskevi. Now to the Yadim Studios. There are about a dozen rooms in all and a small pool with sunbeds next to the bar which is a Sports Bar with 4 teles, good food at a very good price and a charming barman who you will fall in love with. There are lovely gardens which are very well kept and an excellent supermarket selling everything you will need for your stay at reasonable prices. Our room was a twin on the ground floor with a small balcony with table and chairs. The rooms were clean and well equipped with a good hair dryer but no TV so take something with you for music or perhaps a tablet and videos. Unfortunately the facilities were far from what would be expected from a Thomson property with a very small bathroom which was almost un-usable. To sit on the toilet meant your legs were under the sink so you could wash yourself while on the loo !!!! The shower was tiny and the shower hook (what a treat) was unfortunately loose and the shower head didn't fit anyway. The wall hook and soap dish were also loose. The plumbing in the bathroom and kitchen was so amateurish it was laughble. The taps were hit and miss for leakage, sometimes squirting a spray upwards in your face. The toilet was stuck together with filler and for two days the water in the loo and sinks was coffee coloured. It cleared after a day or two. The beds were OK but one of our mattresses was really lumpy and needed replacing as did the pillows which were awful. The towels and sheets were past their best too. So quite a lot of complaints there and we felt the rooms were not up to Thomson standard overall. Put this down to the fact that people book year after year for this place and apparently it is sometimes difficult to get in. This might sound funny going on our assessment, but it is obviously down to one thing - the family who run the Yadim. They are the most amazing people and quite honestly fall over backwards to please everyone, always smiling and helpful. They work extremely hard and all the guests say the same thing - don't be put off by the poor standard of the rooms because it all goes by the wayside when you meet the family and lovely people who visit. So it is highly improbably we will chose the Yadim again for our twice a year visit to Skiathos but on the whole the holiday we had was really good and the island will draw us back again and again.
