Kastrosikia holidays

Parga, Greece

Holidays to Kastrosikia shine a spotlight on a library-quiet patch of the Greek coast with an uber-authentic feel.

Quiet Greek getaways

Kastrosikia – a hilltop village in the mainland’s Parga region – has managed to stay off the tourist trail and keep hold of its authentic Greek charm. That makes it a top spot for away-from-it-all holidays when a little peace and quiet’s all you’re after. It’s perched near a largely untouched stretch of coast, and is split into two sections – the village and the beach.

The village

Kastrosikia village is as quaint as they come. Terracotta-roofed villas sit along roads lined with olive-green trees and the odd citrus grove. The whitewashed Church of St George sits at the heart of it all, opposite the village’s only restaurant – a Greek taverna with sea views. Just across the main road, you’ll find the 17th-century Monastery of Agia Pelagia, which was built on top of ancient Roman ruins.

The beach

Just south of the village, there’s a long stretch of silver-tinted sand-and-shingle shoreline waiting to be walked along. On the eastern side of the beach, next to a tiny fishing harbour, you’ve got all you need for a lazy day – there are sunloungers for hire and a handful of eateries. For a quieter sunbathing spot, look west of the harbour to Kastrosikia Beach – the pebbles here are usually crowd-free.
