Lygia’s appeal lies firmly within its traditional roots. Not too much has changed in this small village over the past few decades, which is home to around 750 people. Life is centred on the pretty marina area, where you’ll find sea and mountain views that are second to none. There’s a smattering of charming tavernas dotted along the water’s edge – think blue-checked tablecloths, white wooden chairs and menus that change according to the local fishermen’s catch of the day.

A hiker’s paradise

The entire island of Lefkas is primed and ready for both new and experienced ramblers looking to clock up the miles. There’s a maze of walking trails criss-crossing through leafy forests, along rivers peppered with waterfalls, and past petite villages that hug mountainsides. A canyon and a gorge also throw their hats into the ring.

Nearby Nidri

Nidri – a 15-minute drive from Lygia – is the largest town on Lefkas, and it’s taken on its lead role with gusto. You’ll find open-all-hours nightspots and international flavours alongside old-style bars and eateries, and a wide choice of watersports on offer by the shore. As an added perk, Nidri’s home to a ferry shuttle that hops back and forth to the island of Meganissi – near-untouched beaches, a trio of tiny towns and post-perfect scenery are the calling cards here.
