Psalidi holidays take you to a family friendly shoreline on the east coast of Kos. The resort offers up first-class views of the nearby Turkish coastline, and it’s within walking distance of the hot springs at Therma Beach. In nearby Kos Town, meanwhile, history buffs should check out the 14th-century Neratzia Castle and the ancient plane tree of Hippocrates,
The modern Greek resort of Psalidi is in such close proximity to the island’s capital, Kos Town, it could basically be a suburb. Its tucked-away charm with beautiful greenery make it the ideal spot for recharging in a quiet setting, and some of the island’s most exclusive hotels are lined up along its unspoilt seafront.
The V-shaped Psalidi Beach is a long pebble shoreline that’s pulled right up to the shallow Aegean Sea – that makes it perfect for paddling. There are watersports like windsurfing and kite-surfing here, plus views of the Turkish mainland. If you’re not lounging on the beach or joining in with the watersports, the things to do include Therma Beach natural hot springs. They’re a 20-minute walk away, and you can simmer in the hot springs that bubble up from the earth.
Psalidi’s beachfront promenade runs parallel to the shoreline, and it’s filled with restaurants serving Greek fare, fresh fish tavernas, local bars and bakeries, gift shops and supermarkets. There are scuba diving schools, too, and if you head inland to the island’s rugged interior, you can whizz along mountain biking trails.
It’s just a 25-minute walk to Kos Town, and there are plenty of things to do in Kos’ capital. Visit the Neratzia Castle for a dose of history with harbour views. Then there’s the famous plane tree of Hippocrates where the father of western medicine used to give lectures under its leafy boughs. For nightlife, there are back-to-back bars and clubs along aptly named Bar Street. And don’t forget to try some of the local ice-cream when you’re in town – it gets great reviews.
