Holidays to Keri are all about glassy waters, traditional Greek tavernas and postcard-perfect scenery.
Take to the water
Keri’s a peaceful village tucked away in a bay in the south of Zante, and it’s known for its beach-dotted coastline and traditional stone houses. When the water’s gin-clear and as gentle as a whisper, it’s too tempting not to go for a dip in it. You can ease yourself into the sea from Keri’s sand-and-pebble shores or skim the waves on an afternoon boat trip. Keri Caves are a popular option when it comes to excursions on the sea – they're carved into a chalky-white cliffside, and the water’s the colour of peacock feathers. You can also sail to Marathonisi – AKA Turtle Island – if you fancy your chances at spotting a loggerhead sea turtle out in the water.
Zante Town daytrips
The vibe’s very chilled in Keri, but if you fancy picking up the pace a little, you can drive to the eastern side of the island and reach lively Zante Town in around 30 minutes. This town’s the capital of Zante, and it’s bursting at the seams with souvenir ships, seafood restaurants and beach bars where you can get a taste of the local food and drink – think moussaka, tzatziki dips and ouzo cocktails. You can get a history fix at a handful of museums and a Venetian castle, and if architecture’s your thing, there’s a scattering of churches complete with domes and bell towers.
Hikes with a view
Keri’s a great base for budding walkers, with a bunch of trails nearby that come with showstopping views of the sea and the cliffs. You can take a route over to Keri Lighthouse, which is a hotspot for sunset viewing. It’s a bit of a walk from the centre of the village, but it’s well worth it for the sunset, and you can hop in a cab to get back to base. Keep your eyes peeled for the Mizithres Islets on your journey – these two rocky peaks rise up out of glowing blue waters, and they make a top-notch backdrop for your holiday snaps.
