A sandy stretch of beach, seaside cocktail bars and lively nightlife – Pefkohori holidays hold lots of appeal.
This lively town sits in the south of Halkidiki’s Kassandra peninsula. During the winter months it’s pretty sleepy, but come summertime, the beachfront bars and town centre tavernas are in full swing with tourists. Families flock here for the cracker-coloured beach and child-friendly restaurants, while partygoers make a beeline for the late-night bars and discos dotted on and around the beachfront.
Pefkohori’s shoreline stretches for more than a mile, so there’s plenty of wriggle room if you head to the quieter spots at each end. Most of the middle bit gets pretty packed, thanks to the bars, restaurants and watersports vendors scattered along here. Meanwhile, sightseeing boat trips are available from the pier, around halfway along the beach.
Greece’s second city is around 90 minutes away by car, so it’s doable in a daytrip. Ancient Roman ruins, art galleries, bustling markets, UNESCO-listed churches – this place has got the lot. There are dozens of musuems to explore, too, covering everything from basketball to modern art. Or, if you just fancy a spot of retail therapy, Tsimiski is a mile-long shopaholics paradise.
