Tavronitis holidays
Jump to sections
Tavronitis holidays are all about kicking back on the beaches and getting to know back-to-basics Greece.
Peaceful plot
Tavronitis is your textbook traditional Greek town. Simple whitewashed apartments and villas peel off from the centre, which is populated by a handful of bakeries, vine-shrouded restaurants and mini-markets. It’s postage stamp-sized in comparison to Crete’s big-hitters, but delivers a proper glimpse of authentic island life.
Beside the beach
This place might feel like it belongs in Crete’s tucked-away countryside, but it’s actually a short stroll from the island’s beach-brushed north coast. The closest stretch is an under-the-radar pebble number, which is ideal for undisturbed tanning time. Head along the coastline, and the shore soon fades from smooth stones to fine sand. Platanias is one of the top picks, and you can reach it in 10 minutes’ drive.
Days out to Chania
Skip past a string of villages, and one of the island’s best-known names is at your fingertips. Chania’s packed with Venetian architecture, old-school sights and a wealth of bars and restaurants. The waterfront’s split into different belts, with a skirt of sand backed by a lively promenade, followed by a knot of hotels and shopping streets.
