Pyrgi holidays
Jump to sections
Holidays to Pyrgi showcase the slower side of Corfu. Days can be spent flopped out on the beach, while evenings are taken up by al fresco dinners on the prom.
Corfu’s sleepier side
Pyrgi is a pint-sized fishing village, with only a handful of permanent residents compared to Corfu’s bigger resorts. It’s tagged on to the crest of Ipsos Bay, on the island’s northeast coast, and it’s just a stroll along the shoreline to the bay’s namesake resort, Ipsos.
Three-kilometre coastline
Ipsos Bay’s stretch of sand and pebbles extends for three kilometres, connecting Pyrgi and Ipsos. Along its length, you’ll find small, perfectly-formed coves sitting alongside larger curls that are the launch-point for watersports.
Authentic village life
You’ll feel as though you’ve stumbled upon authentic Greece when you first lay eyes on Pyrgi. Think mama’s kitchen tavernas along the seafront, where you can dine in view of the fishing boats bobbing in the shallows. Further inland, sweet-smelling pine trees roll down from the mountains.
Out and about
Life in Pyrgi is fairly slow-paced – you’ll find a few English-style pubs along the promenade, but for more of a night out, make tracks for nearby Ipsos. It’s home to a string of karaoke bars, and tavernas where plate-smashing accompanies evening drinks. Further on, Corfu Town is a half-hour drive along the coast.
