View All DealsHolidays to Glyfada are about relaxing on a super-soft sandy beach, tucking into home-cooked Greek food and wandering off the beaten track.
A lovely sandy beach and a few friendly tavernas – that’s about it in Glyfada, which is what makes it such a perfect place to turn down the volume and relax. This tiny village is tucked away on Corfu’s west coast with fantastic walking trails all around and Corfu Town – for culture, shopping and a livelier nightlife – within easy reach.
Glyfada has one of the best beaches Corfu has to offer. It has a Blue Flag for starters. And the long, golden stretch is framed by dramatic cliffs and pine-covered mountains. The sea gets a gold star for watersports, while sunloungers and a decent scattering of cafés and bars keep up the good work on dry land.
At Glyfada, you’re on the Corfu Trail, which weaves its way for 220 kilometres across the island. A walk along this well-marked trail leads you down cobbled paths to inland villages, past ruined monasteries and sand dunes, and gives you an ever-changing landscape of rolling olive groves, heathland and juniper trees. The most challenging walks are in the rugged north.
Corfu Town, the island’s capital, is less than half an hour away. Its history plays out in the UNESCO-rated old town with its mix of French and Italian architecture, 16th-century fort and Palace of St Michael and St George, former residence of the British High Commissioners. And of course the Greeks have their own monuments – the red-domed St Spiridon’s Church is the final resting place for Corfu’s patron saint.
Reached by a winding road, the beach is long and sandy. It shelves steeply in parts but overall, it's a safe place for children to play. There are numerous watersports on offer including sailing.
