Morzine holidays

Morzine holidays serve up authentic alpine charm, peak-perfect scenery and endless ways to get stuck into active exploring.

Mountain summers, done right

Set deep in the French-Swiss Chablais mountain range, you’ll find Morzine – a traditional alpine village with chalet-style buildings scattered across green rolling hills. With peaks aplenty, you'll want to head up on the Pleney and Super Morzine gondolas (free with your Multi Pass summer card, included in your stay) for views that hit different. And you can count on the many cafés, bars and restaurants back in town to bring the buzz. Fancy a lake day? Cycle 20 minutes to Lac de Montriond for a refreshing dip or casual stroll, framed by dramatic cliffs and forests.

Hike or bike

Lace up your boots or hop on a bike – this is just the place to get active. With over 200km of marked trails, you’ll find paths for every pace, from easy ambles to more challenging hikes. Prefer two wheels? Pedal through iconic Tour-de-France mountain passes or go off-road and explore the huge mountain bike parks spread across the Portes du Soleil area. There are so many bikes, trails and lifts to choose from, so guided tours and lessons are a great way to get started. Along the way, soak up the stunning alpine landscapes and fresh mountain air.

In Summer 2025, the neighbouring resort of Les Gets is hosting the UCI Mountain Bike World Series from 21-31 August. With six different events, taking place over the 10 days, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to watch the world’s best mountain bikers battle it out for a spot on the podium. Catch the hourly Portes du Soleil shuttle bus from Morzine to get in on the action.

Family fun meets French charm

Mix action-packed days with laid-back must-dos. With your summer card, get free access to the Aquatic Centre. Dive into the huge open-air pool, then stretch out on the grassy lawn while the kids conquer the giant slide. For more fun with the fam, ride the Ardent lift to Lindarets, the Village of Goats, home to freely roaming 4-legged locals. Grab some treats to feed them, then wrap up with a cheesy fondue or raclette at a cosy mountain hut restaurant. It doesn’t get much more authentically French than this.

Don’t forget your essentials – a swimsuit and picnic – so you can have a dip in the freshwater lake and a bite to eat on the grassy lawn, with stunning cliff views all around. It's totally free, and your summer card gets you in for some minigolf fun on the southwestern shore.

Aquatic Centre

Morzine’s Aquatic Centre is a must-visit – especially as it’s free with your summer card. Swim laps in the Olympic-size open-air pool, let the kids take on the giant slide or hit the volleyball court. And don’t miss out on finding your zen in the saunas and steam rooms.

Shopping

Get a true taste of Morzine at the weekly market in the centre of town. Stock up on locally produced meats and cheeses, or just snack your way through. There’s plenty more bits and bobs to browse too, from clothing to shoes and fun holiday finds you never knew you needed.

Mid-range buys

Morzine’s boutiques and shops are brimming with local goodies – perfect for taking home a slice of the region. Think Savoie wines, artisanal charcuterie, handmade chocolates and cool crafted finds. Whether it’s for your snack stash, your shelf or a mate, mooching around is half the fun.

Designer buys

Forgot your gear? No sweat. Morzine’s many outdoor clothing shops have you covered with quality kit for hikes, bike rides or even skiing. More into home comforts? Look out for the odd interiors shop to find bits like candles, sheepskin rugs and more to bring a bit of alpine style home.

Nightlife

Laid-back evenings

If a chill evening’s the vibe, check out the Lumina night walks in nearby Les Gets – where lights, music and stunning set designs turn the forest into something straight out of a dream. Back in Morzine, pop into La Marmotte d’Or, a cosy, family-run bar serving perfect pints of Guinness, cocktails and a generous helping of warm Irish hospitality.

Lively evenings

Morzine goes big on nightlife too. Hit up Cavern Bar right in the middle of town where live music’s an everyday thing – dance, sing and party ’til the early hours. Want to skip the bar queues? Book a beer table and pour your own pints. Cheers to that.

Food & drink

Eating out

For a small mountain town, Morzine’s got big foodie vibes. From Savoyard classics like gooey fondue to a cracking burger, there’s plenty to sink your teeth into. Most places keep it chill, but there are a few swanky spots if you’re feeling fancy.

Burgers at Ô Chalet

Hungry after a hike? This spot by the Pleney lift dishes out drool-worthy gourmet burgers stacked with local goodness. The super laid-back vibe means there’s no need to book – just roll in and chow down.

Fondue and raclette at The Cauldron

Planning a trip to the Village of Goats in Lindarets? Do yourself a favour and book lunch at The Cauldron. Think of a postcard-perfect mountain hut with flowers spilling from the balcony, and Savoyard specialities like fondue and raclette. Hearty pastas, soups and more are up for grabs too.

Getting about

Buses

Hop on the free shuttle buses to zip around town – they run all summer. But if you’re keen to go a little further afield, pay a small fee to bus it to nearby villages – like Les Gets and Montriond – using the Balad’Aulps service.

Summer lifts

Take the Pleney gondola for epic views of town, the Chablais mountains and Mont Blanc (on clear days). It’s your starting point for hiking and mountain biking routes. Then there’s the Super Morzine gondola that links to Avoriaz and trails to the Vallée d’Abondance or even Switzerland. Pedestrian access to both is free with your summer card – but be aware that there’ll be an extra charge if you want to bring your bike on.

On foot

Morzine’s pedestrian-friendly town centre makes getting around a breeze – you might just feel a slight incline where the lower and upper parts of the resort are joined. Want to level up your walks? Take the Pleney and Super Morzine gondolas for higher hikes, free with your summer card.

Walking

Walking

This place is packed with trails to keep you busy. With a whopping 800km of marked routes across the Portes du Soleil region, you’re all set to take in the fresh mountain air and views that’ll stop you in your tracks. You’ll come across everything from valleys and peaks to lakes and waterfalls. Whether you’re after a relaxed stroll or a hike that really tests your legs, there’s something to suit all kinds of levels. Check out the tourist board’s interactive map to find the best route for you.

Lac de Montriond

Take the easy 3km loop around Lac de Montriond, starting and ending at the car park. In about 1 hour 15 minutes, you’ll be right back where you set off, having soaked up knockout views of cliffs, forests and Roc d’Enfer’s reflection in the lake. The flat, shaded path makes for a super chilled walk. Plus, with benches dotted along the way, it’s perfect for a picnic (and a freshwater dip, of course).

To Brochaux waterfall

Fuel up at The Cauldron restaurant in Lindaret (AKA the Village of Goats) before hitting the footpath to Cascade de Brochaux. This not-too-tough trail meanders through meadows and over a rushing river, with stunning sights all the way. In just under two hours, you’ll reach the waterfall – the real star of the show – framed by pine trees and maybe even a few curious cows.
