What to expect from Hetta

You’ll find Hetta on the north-western arm of Finland. Look at it on a map, and you might notice its Arctic Ocean proximity – it’s just 50 kilometres from the water. The fact that it’s in the Enontekiö region is worth noting, as well. This area’s a prime example of remote Lapland geography, with lots of flat-topped mountains and frozen lakes that are separated only by a scattering of wooden huts. The Fell-Lapland Nature Centre is really close, so you can head there for hilly hikes. Don’t miss the Jyppra Lookout – this viewpoint sits right behind the nature centre, and gives you a great view of Hetta from above.

Winter activities in Hetta

Searching for snow? You’re in the right place. Hetta’s winter landscapes are often blanketed in white, and they make an ideal playground for all sorts of frosty fun. Here, you can take snowmobile safaris across polar-like plateaus, go on reindeer sleigh rides through glittering glades and take a ride on husky pulled sleds. Cross-country skiing tracks aren’t hard to come by, either. In fact, there are hundreds of kilometres of them in the area. Let the outdoor adventures commence…

See the Northern Lights in Hetta

If there’s one thing to pencil down on your holiday itinerary while you’re here, it’s the Northern Lights viewing times. That’s because Hetta is one of Finland’s prime spotting locations for the elusive Aurora Borealis, to use the fancy name. You’ll have the best chance at spotting them between 9.30pm and 11pm, when there are clear night sky conditions. Anyone lucky enough to spot dazzling solar flares are said to be happy for the rest of their days – that’s according to local legends.
