Holidays to Neo Chorio reveal a quieter side of Cyprus that’s well worth adding to your travel must-visit list.
Neo Chorio, meaning ‘new village’, is a quiet, up‑on‑the‑hill hideaway that’s all about the go‑slow side of Cyprus. It’s the total opposite of busy resort hubs like Paphos or Larnaca – ideal if you’d rather swap nightlife crowds for vineyard views and big‑sky panoramas. This little west‑coast village stays blissfully under the radar, with cobbled lanes, 300‑year‑old stone houses with wooden shutters, colour pops of bougainvillea, and a tiny stone church anchoring its dinky little piazza.
Neo Chorio sits on a part of the west coast that’s full of quiet sand and pebble stretches, from Latchi beach – which also comes with a cute harbour worth checking out – and Yiannakis beach, too. And if strolling’s more your thing, there are also loads of coastal paths in the area.
With Greek mythology woven into Cyprus’ DNA, it’s only right there’s a local legend to unlock. A short wander from Neo Chorio brings you to Aphrodite’s Baths, a small, shaded grotto fed by a natural spring under a giant fig tree. Legend has it that the Goddess of Love bathed here, and that the waters are meant to be magic (no swimming’s allowed, though). Surrounding trails let you carry on the story on foot, winding through olive groves and pine‑lined paths.
Neo Chorio’s a good launchpad for the Akamas National Park – Cyprus’s wild western edge. This protected area offers a mix of gorges, hidden bays, rocky trails and over 160 types of birds flitting about. Inside the park, you can walk or cycle the Adonis, Aphrodite, or Smigies trails for ridge‑top views, rocky paths and secluded bays you can scramble down to. Don’t miss the Blue Lagoon inside the park for some of the clearest water in Cyprus, or the Akamas viewpoint, where you can quad‑bike or hike up for peninsula panoramas.
