Kissonerga holidays
Holidays to Kissonerga line up laidback beaches, age-old ruins and bundles of natural scenery.
Sun and sea
Kissonerga cosies up to the coast in south-west Cyprus, around 15 minutes’ drive from Paphos. The northern end of the village is flanked by a quiet stretch of pebble beach. And if you want to feel sand beneath your feet, you can make the 10-minute journey to nearby Coral Bay. The Blue Flag sweep here’s well geared up for sunbathers – there are loungers, cafes and a watersports kiosk lying in wait.
Plantations aplenty
Agriculture’s firmly rooted in Kissonerga’s history – growing fruit and veg used to be big business around here. These days, tourism’s taken the reins, but the area’s still famous for its banana plantations. There are handfuls of them dotted about between the village and the sea, giving the place plenty of unique scenery. Keep an eye out for watermelons growing in the summer, too.
Rich in history
Kissonerga and its surrounding areas are peppered with prehistoric remains. Most of them are small, but history buffs can pop over to the UNESCO-listed Paphos Archaeological Park for a look at one of the most significant sites in Cyprus. Here, you can eye up monuments from the Middle Ages all the way up to Roman times. It’s less than a 20-minute taxi ride away, so it’s ideal for a morning or afternoon out.
