Alpbach holidays

Holidays to Alpbach are full of classic shuttered chalets and flower-filled balconies – it's easy to see why this has been voted Austria's most beautiful village.

Meadows and mountain views

Alpbach has a scenic walk to match every pace, from gentle strolls through the green meadows to mountain trails with glorious views from the top of the cable cars. And the best part is stopping off for a cold drink in one of the Alpine huts along the way, or cooling your toes in one of the region’s five lakes.

Go back in time

Time seems to have stood still in Alpbach. The first road up into the valley was only built in 1926, so the isolated village has been able to preserve its distinctive alpine buildings and local Tyrolean traditions. And despite its popularity as a mountain resort, Alpbach’s local industries are thriving – there are still 105 working farms in the village, which is the same number as 100 years ago. Take a trip to the farmhouse museum to learn a little more about the local way of life.

Good to know

There won’t be a rep based in your resort, but a rep will meet you at the airport when you arrive and get you on your way. If you’ve got any questions during your holiday, you can call our 24/7 TUI Service Centre at any time.

Beaches

Reither See

Just 20 minutes by bus from Alpbach is the village centre of Reith, right by the Reither See lake. Known as the Emerald Eye, it’s an ideal place to cool off after a day of hiking or biking. The lake is framed by stunning mountain scenery and the pretty, flower-filled town.

Grassy banks

The large lake is 8m deep, and is edged by grassy banks rather than a shingle or sandy beach. There are jettys to jump off from, a children’s play area, paddling pond, changing rooms and a kiosk where you can pick up some snacks.

Mild waters

Mountain lakes stay cold for most of the year, but the waters are gently heated in the high summer months. Reither See is one of the warmest bathing lakes in Tyrol, making it very popular with families and those who fancy a lazy day in the sun.

Nightlife

Laid-back evenings

Alpbach is not a place with a buzzy nightlife. Evenings are spent having a quiet drink in either your hotel or one of the few local bars in the centre of town. Venture out for a nighttime walk to explore this authentic Austrian town and its charming wooden architecture.

Food & drink

Eating out

Savour hearty snacks in a tranquil Alpine hut, sample Tyrolean delights in local inns or try melt-in-the-mouth specialities in award-winning restaurants - all in the small village of Alpbach. Homemade schnapps is a local delicacy so make sure you order some with your meal. Being a small resort, there isn’t loads of choice, but that also means you never have to walk very far to find somewhere to stop for a coffee.

Tyrolean vibe at the Postalm Alpbach

In the centre of Alpbach is the rustic Austrian pub Postalm Alpbach, with indoor and outdoor seating and a lively atmosphere. They occasionally have Tyrolean bands playing.

Dauerstoa Alm for something sweet

Up in the mountains, next to the main gondola, you’ll find Dauerstoa Alm, boasting a large decking area with sun loungers – ideal for admiring the fantastic views and watching the world go by. Their cakes are also sublime.

Food and shopping at Café Genuss

A short walk from the town centre is Café Genuss, a pretty little café with friendly staff and a charming atmosphere. Great for breakfast, lunch or just a slice of cake, the café also has an adjoining shop selling beautiful homewares and gifts.
