Catalonia Riviera Maya & Yucatan Beach Resort & Spa

This is a beautiful location with pleasant amenities and rooms. BUT the noise level from the entertainment staff at the pool is actually at a level damaging to hearing, particularly for children! After repeated requests produced no response except a suggestion to report the issue to Puerto Aventuras Security, which is ridiculous, since the hotel is responsible. If you are looking for a relaxing and serene holiday, this is not the place, since they seem to think that everyone wants to live in a disco.

Great...a wonderful place to stay, friendly and polite staff, very clean and fun resort. Easy to get around and safe place. Lots of fun places to eat..we loved the Creperie and Icecream Bar, Fresh juice bar too.

This is our 2nd visit to Catalonia Rivera maya and it was just as wonderful as before. We were given a free upgrade to privileged as this was our 2nd trip which we very much appreciated. This gave us access to BEloved restaurant and the privileged area on the beach as well as a stocked mini bar in the room, room service and late check out if available. Ivor took our bags to the room and returned later with a bottle of tequila and some desserts as a welcome which was a lovely touch. The entertainment team are still always on the go with some familiar and new faces. Shout out to Georgina, Rodrigo (Rodders) and Alejandra who was new to the entertainment team and was genuinely such a lovely girl to chat to. They work so hard to ensure everyone enjoys themselves and deserve all the credit for it. Their Moulin Rouge show was simply fantastic Our favourite restaurants were beloved (try the tuna starter and the Salmon - you will not be disappointed) and the Tapas (which was delicious) The buffets are still great and you are always met with a smile by the hostesses. Such a wide variety of food both healthy and not so healthy. Admittedly you may see the same for lunch and dinner but it’s edible and enjoyable. One mention would be the Japanese restaurant. As lovely as it is, I was travelling with a vegetarian and they cook the meat and fish at the same time and use the same cooking utensils which isn’t great! If you fancy a walk down to the Marina check out La Caleta. It’s lovely and sometimes a welcome change to the all inclusive! Their guacamole is phenomenal. Regardless of colour of wristband you can upgrade your wine for a cost. We always do this in the majority of restaurants as we appreciate good wine, they have a vast majority so make sure you check it out. We only did one trip this time to Cozumel which was lovely but I was nursing a pretty horrific hangover and the crossing was a little rough. However we then boarded a Catamaran and snorkelled for about 30/40 mins in the most gorgeous reef I’ve ever seen. Look out for Joseph on the beach as he sells this trip for $98 USD per person. The weather was wonderful 28/31 degrees daily from the 26th Nov - 10th Dec and the beach was white, with clear waters and no seaweed!! We didn’t check out the Spa but we did opt to have a few things laundered. A jumper, 2 towels and a dress cost around £9 GBP and was picked up and returned the same day. The bar staff are great in all areas, but special thanks go to Fili in the Abuela bar who got us so drunk in about an hour we ended up asleep at 9pm! If I could change one thing it would be to keep the abuela bar open till 12. As the shows have been changed to 9.30 it doesn’t leave much time to grab a drink and socialise afterwards. Whilst I doubt we will ever come back to the Catalonia (more so because there is more of the world to explore) this is a great resort with such a huge range of activities and will always remember it very fondly.
