The Catalonia Playa Maroma boasts a prime setting on a world-class beach, along with seven restaurants, three bars and an impressive pool scene.
This place gets its name from the long stretch of dove-white sand on its doorstep. Punta Maroma beach carpets the coast for five miles. It’s also a 25-minute taxi ride in the other direction to Playa del Carmen.
The property is cocooned by acres of mangrove forests. And it’s been designed to blend in with its tropical setting. Hacienda-style villas with terraces that look out over the grounds.

Such a wonderful place! It was paradise. The staff went out of the way to make us feel included and special. The room was great and very romantic. I definitely recommend this place. The husband and I will be back on our year anniversary!More

Staff and Facility Review
The majority of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Especially helpful was Alberto, who was present at the time of our arrival and remembered us throughout our stay. He was visible in many areas of the resort to assist with any questions or concerns, and provided great advise. Truly he is a shining star among the staff. Unfortunately, our first impression of this facility was poor. Upon arrival, the rooms we reserved were not available. The clerk at front desk was NOT helpful, in fact, was rather disrespectful and not willing to honor our reservation and accommodate our request, which was to have rooms with double beds in close proximity to the others in the group we were traveling with (clearly guaranteed on our reservations). She finally did so, but 2 members of our party had to return to request a room change due to the large number of ants in the room. Again the clerk was clearly annoyed with that request, and reluctantly assigned another room, which was in a completely different building than that of the others in our traveling group. The issue was resolved the following day, however, it did cause great distress as well as lost time and much inconvenience. Unfortunately, the re-assigned room did not have air conditioning that worked properly, even after reporting it daily. It was in the high 80's during our stay, so the room was still uncomfortably warm at night. The occupants of the room were finally offered yet another room change on the 3rd day of occupancy, however, declined this due to the bad experience and inconvenience related to the the prior room changes. I would rate this facility a 5 if it were not for the room issues. Otherwise, the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful. The housekeepers made towel sculptures, which were delightful, and the rooms appeared clean. If you are not interested in the "turn-down" service in the evening, I would suggest that you keep the "do not disturb" sign on the outside of the door. And don't forget to lock your safe, as they will not do anything if a safe is not locked. Although there was a great variety of food to choose from, it was buffet style for the most part, and the choices were not particularly outstanding in taste (with the exception of the many desserts). Breakfast was the best meal of the day. There were restaurants on the grounds, but the hours/days of operation for these were not clearly posted, so we missed the opportunity to experience these fully. The buffet is boring with the same food choices day after day. This is another reason I would not give this facility a 5 star rating. The beach area is quite nice, with lots of seating and also palm trees if one wished to be in the shade. The pool was small, and there was not a swim-up bar, although there was construction going on to increase the pool size and to add a swim-up bar. Having stayed in other all-inclusive resorts along the Riviera Maya, I can say some of the others were much better, with services such as providing staff to carry bags to and from front lobby and providing golf cart transportation when checking in and out. I do believe that it is fun to experience different resorts and beaches, as all have their pros and cons.More
