Nai Thon Beach holidays show a quieter side to Phuket, with uncrowded Thailand beaches, low-key local restaurants and lesser-known coral reefs.
Nai Thon Beach is in its tourism infancy, so you can expect peaceful sands and chilled-out restaurants when you holiday here. It’s a laidback alternative to Phuket’s wilder side, offering a relaxed Thailand holiday with all the staples – think swaying palms, clear waters and spicy Thai dishes – plus an uncrowded sweep of sand.
Nai Thon Beach has kilometre-long sands, tropical casuarina trees and quiet waters without motorised sports. The peacefulness of the sea makes it a winning spot for Phuket coral reef snorkelling. You can sunbathe on the sand or grab your goggles and your breathing tube and catch a glimpse of life under the waves.
Life under the sea’s pretty lively in this neck of the woods, meaning Nai Thon Beach diving trips are popular with tourists. You can grab your gear from a local dive shop and head for deserted Phuket coves and Shark Point, where you might spot some harmless leopard sharks weaving through the water. Long tail boat excursions are often on the cards here, too, and if relaxed beach schedules are more your thing, there’s plenty of space to catch some rays.
The Nai Thon Beach restaurants have a focus on lantern-lit pontoon meals, independent eateries and authentic home-spun Thai recipes. In-house hotel dining’s popular here, too, which isn’t a surprise as there are a few places to stay on Nai Thon Beach Road. Menus are peppered with the likes of fresh papaya salad and coconut curry.
