Vagator holidays

Vagator, Goa, India

Holidays to Vagator team amazing sunsets with electric nightlife and aromatic street food.

Clifftop sunsets

Sea views and vibrant nightlife set the tone in this lively Indian town. By day you’ll see the sun bounce off the striking red cliffs, and at night you can pair a cocktail with stellar sunset views. Plus, lots of the bars in Vagator are perched on a clifftop – the main stretch is scattered with everything from chilled-out pubs to swanky fine-dining restaurants, lots of which occupy scenic spots. You can expect pretty, open-air terraces with panoramic views.

Shiva’s Face rock

Tucked away at the very edge of Little Vagator Beach is Shiva’s Face, a huge rock with the ancient Indian god’s features carved into the side. It’s said to have been crafted by a young Italian sculptor, Antonio Caroli, in the 1960s. Although you can tell the carving is over half a century old, it’s well-preserved and really stands out among the calm sands and waters surrounding it. Be sure to bring your camera when you visit – this gem is one of the most photographed spots in the area.

Late-night shopping

Strolling by colourful stalls at a market is a great way to immerse yourself in Vagator’s traditions and mingle with the locals. Each Friday, from mid-afternoon until late, there’s a market on a hilltop – the Goa Collective Bazaar – where you’ll find much more than just independent traders. It’s a celebration of culture and creativity, and you can browse everything from arts and crafts to clothing and a whole host of street food. The setting’s a blend of dangling lanterns and towering palm trees in all directions. You’ll often hear DJ sets and other live music while you shop, too.

Visit Chapora Fort

For a glimpse into history, head to the ancient Chapora Fort. Perched on the banks of the Chapora River, these ruins date back to the 1600s. The fort has a long history as a military standpoint, but these days it’s visited for its incredible views as much as its past – it's become a prized place for watching the sun sink over the sea.
