Looking for a family holiday? Tunisia gets our thumbs up for its sun, sea, sand and ancient sights.
Sun, sea and camels
Balmy temps, soft sands and calm blue waters make the beaches in Tunisia a perfect pick for families. Make tracks for 10-kilometre-long Hammamet Beach and you won’t need to worry about finding a spot for the whole brood. Plus, kids can ride a camel – or horse – along this go-slow stretch. Mahdia Beach is another beauty, where jet-skis, banana boats and pedalos are all on the cards.
Offshore adventures
From Port El Kantaoui, hop onboard a pirate-style boat for a swashbuckling day on the waves – and little ones might even spot grouper fish, which grow to over a metre in length. Or, if you fancy donning your snorkelling or diving gear, there’s a diving centre on the edge of the marina that’ll get you all set up.
History-packed days out
Away from the coastline, there are medinas and ancient sights to tick off in Tunisia. Kids will love walking in the footsteps of the Romans in Dougga, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Or, hop in a taxi and drive 45 minutes west of Mahdia to El-Djem – the ruins of the largest Ancient Roman colosseum in North Africa.
Top-notch hotels
Most of our hotels in Tunisia are by the beach, so it’s easy to go from pool splashing to sandcastle building. Plus, they’re packed with child-friendly facilities like big pools, kids’ clubs and sports activities.
