Marumbi holidays

Holidays to Marumbi take you to a sleepy spot on Zanzibar's east coast, with a national park and a picturesque bay on either side.

Simple surroundings

Marumbi’s one of the quieter villages sprinkled along Zanzibar’s shoreline. It’s midway along the east coast, with nothing but a pocket of hotels and traditional houses to its name. That’s where the appeal lies – you’ll have peace and quiet in big measures.

Beside the bay

This place overlooks U-shaped Chwaka Bay, where the water’s as clear as an aquarium. A strip of meringue-coloured sand rolls out between Marumbi and the waterfront, and the secluded setting means you could hear a pin drop while you’re sunbathing. Come sunset, authentic East African dhow boats set off on sunset cruises across the bay.

Nearby nature

Take a half-an-hour drive inland from Marumbi, and you’ll reach one Zanzibar – and Tanzania's – best natural sights, the Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park. It’s the only national park on the entire island, and one the best places for wildlife spotting. Endangered red colobus monkeys were discovered here by a British naturalist in the 1800s, and you can kayak along twisting mangroves beneath the thick forest canopy.
