View All DealsHolidays to Bain Boeuf are a cocktail of white-sand beaches, coral reef-filled seas and big-name neighbours.
Bain Boeuf is at Mauritius’ northern tip – the part of the island that boasts the most hours of sunshine throughout the year. Its name translates as ‘beef bath’ – in a former life this place was surrounded by fields of cattle. Local farmers would bring their cows to the beach and bathe them in the sea. These days the wildlife comes in the form of canaries that chirp in the Filao trees that line the sands. The chilled beach scene is the main event at this place, and for a faster pace Bain Boeuf has some lively neighbours just along the coast.
The beach here is a hotspot for snorkellers and scuba divers thanks to the candy-floss-coloured coral reefs that sit below the shoreline. The sea here’s alive with marine life, with tortoises, turtles and dog tooth tuna swimming around. There’s a shipwreck 35 metres beneath the surface, too – this Japanese fishing boat has become a haven of underwater activity since sinking to the depths.
The northern parts of Mauritius are pebbled with some the islands best daytripping spots – you’ve got Grand Baie just along the coast, for instance. This place is home to some of the islands biggest nightclubs and bars. Head to Royal Road, where the street is lined with cocktail bars and nightclubs, for some of the best action. Elsewhere, you’ve got Pereybere beach within easy reach, too – the sand here is cotton-white and the sea is see-through-blue.
