Melilla Cruises, Spain
The Spanish enclave of Melilla lies on Morocco’s north coast, so you can expect a mishmash of European and African architecture, cultures and food. The oldest part of the city is Melilla la Vieja – a huge 15th-century fort made up of ancient tunnels, gates and museums. Over in the Ensanche neighbourhood, you can eye up the banana-coloured Central Mosque and stroll around the palm-studded Hernández Park. And, once you’re done exploring, you can flick out a towel on the sandy beach just south of the port.
- Nose around the Historic Military Museum of Melilla, which sits inside an old gunpowder warehouse in the city’s fort. It houses war relics like weapons, saddles and uniforms.
- Go for a stroll through Hernández Park. Mosaic pavements, tall palms and dainty fountains make it one of the prettiest spots in town.
