Lounge on a sugar-fine beach backed by jade-green rainforest in the British Virgin Islands.
Our cruises to the British Virgin Islands drop anchor in Road Town, the capital city on the country’s biggest island – Tortola. This place feels like it’s made for nature buffs, thanks to the mix of opal-white beaches, ancient rainforests, and flower-filled botanical gardens you’ll find dotted around the island. We sail here from November to April, making the most of the four-month-long dry season that starts in January. Weather-wise, you can expect sunny spells all year round, as well as temperatures that peak in the low 30s.
Just over 12,000 people call the capital of the British Virgin Islands home, and their brightly coloured bungalows are textbook Caribbean. Most of the city’s huddled around a horse-shoe-shaped bay, where you can saunter along a handful of yacht-filled marinas. No day out here’s complete without a stroll down Main Street, though. It’s home to most of the island’s shops, where you can pick up everything from jewellery made out of coral and seashells to duty-free bottles of rum. And if you’re a history fan, you can learn about the 16th-century slave trade during a wander around one of the museums.
Nature’s the star attraction of Tortola. Ancient rainforests hog the limelight. Beautiful botanical gardens vie for your attention. And opal-white beaches like Apple Bay and Smuggler’s Cove really steal the show. It’s wild. It’s wondrous. It’s waiting. Head for Road Town’s pretty Main Street.
TUI River Cruises tick off everything from big-name cities like Budapest and Vienna to barely-trodden bankside beauties, like Cochem and Durnstein – via iconic waterways including the Rhine and Danube. Best of all? Flights, transfers and meals with drinks are all included.
