Holidays to Ajman offer up 20 miles' worth of talcum powder sands, a family-friendly mall, and a big 18th-century fortress.
Peaceful beach retreat
Dubai’s neighbour Ajman is the smallest of all the emirate states. Thanks to its size, there’s a more intimate feel than in the bigger cities. Most people flock here to chill out on the white-sand beach, which stretches out for 20 miles along the Persian Gulf coast. Dolphins are a common sight off this part of the coast, too, so you can pair sunbathing with spotting marine life.
Monuments and malls
Ajman is built around an 18th-century fort. With big, circular watchtowers either side of the entrance, this giant terracotta castle really looks the part. Inside, it’s full of historic artefacts, from photographs to weapons and tools. The City Centre mall is also popular. It’s packed with shops and fast food outlets, as well as a cinema that shows films in English.
Sun up-to-sundown fun
There’s the full A-Z of things to do in Ajman, from morning until evening. You can pair birdwatching with kayaking as you paddle through the channels of the Al Zorah Nature Reserve. Or, lose track of time in the great outdoors with a game of 18 holes at the Al Zorah Golf course. Then, as the sun sets, you can take to the seas in a traditional dhow boat and top it all off with dinner onboard.
Close to Dubai
Dubai’s city centre is 40 minutes' drive down the road. There, you can spend a day working your way along The Walk, a waterfront boulevard packed with restaurants, shops and street performers. Make a splash at Wild Wadi Waterpark, hit the slopes at Ski Dubai, or roll out a towel on one of the sandy beaches. Alternatively, see the city from above in a helicopter or go for afternoon tea at the top of the world’s tallest building.
