Car hire - Europe

You can choose to add car hire to some of our European villa holidays for an extra cost. These holidays don’t include transfers, so you’re free to either make your own arrangements, add car hire, or in some cases, a taxi transfer when you book. Due to the location of many of our villas, we recommend hiring a car.

If you choose to hire a car with us, the car hire company you’ll be using depends on where you’re travelling to, but we work with Enterprise in the majority of our Greek destinations, Alfa Car Hire for Paxos, Reflections Travel for Meganisi, and Europcar for the rest of Europe. Your contract will be with them rather than us, so make sure you check their terms and conditions. Here's a summary of what's included wherever you add car hire to a European holiday package.

The following are included when you add car hire to one of our European holiday packages. Please remember, additional charges may be payable for your booking.

What's included in your car hire booking:

• Unlimited mileage for rentals of 3 days or more

• Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) – excess may apply. You can choose to purchase additional insurance at the rental desk in resort

• Theft Waiver (THW) – excess may apply. You can choose to purchase additional insurance at the rental desk in resort

• Third-party liability cover

• Airport and local surcharges

• Local Government Tax

• Airport pick-up

• Local road maps

• Breakdown service, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Excess Waiver: Insurance to reduce the excess charges can be taken out where available for an extra fee - this is called Excess Waiver.

Deposits: When you collect your hire car, you'll be asked to leave a valid major credit card imprint as a deposit of up to €700 to cover CDW and THW excess charges, petrol and any additional days you have booked locally. This will be held for the duration of your rental and then refunded where no additional costs have been incurred. Some larger cars will require imprints of 2 valid major credit cards. When you pick up the car, it'll come with a full tank of fuel - if you fill it up before you bring it back, you won't be charged for this.

Additional drivers: You'll need to pay Additional driver charges if 2 or more people are going to be driving the car. Remember, you must make any additional driver arrangements when you pick up the car - only named drivers can drive the rental car.

Young driver surcharge: The minimum age for hiring a car is 21 years (22 years in Turkey), but drivers under 25 years will need to pay an additional young driver surcharge.

Optional extras: Where available, you can also add infant seats and roof racks to your car hire in resort, for an extra charge.

Please note, the luggage space in a basic - or Group A - hire car is limited, so if you are collecting your car from the airport on arrival with a lot of luggage, or you would like that extra bit of comfort when touring, we recommend you upgrade to a larger car in a different vehicle group. We regret that we are unable to offer a separate transfer for luggage that does not fit in the car.

The car hire supplier may have to allocate more than one vehicle to accommodate parties of 5 or more. For an additional charge you may request an upgrade to a larger vehicle prior to departure, subject to availability.
