Campos holidays are all about the beaches – with natural tropical-looking beauties just down the road.
Natural beauty
The small rural town of Campos keeps things pretty low-key. It’s just over 20 minutes’ drive from Majorca’s south coast, and the same distance from the capital, Palma. It’s blessed with some of the island’s best beaches, including a handful of sheltered natural bays, Es Trench and Arenal de Sa Rapita. Back in the main town, you’ve got winding cobbled streets which are dotted with traditional stone houses and a scattering of quaint hotels.
Caribbean-like beaches
Es Trench Beach and Arenal de Sa Rapita are less like your typical Majorcan beaches, and more like something from the Caribbean. They’re both semi-wild, natural beaches with smooth, milky-white sands and shallow waters that are as clear as glass. They’re also on the peaceful side, as there are no watersports or hotels allowed in the area. The quieter of the two is Arenal de Sa Rapita, which has the volume on mute.
Cycling circuits
In the cooler months, this area’s a popular spot for bike rides, thanks to the miles of countryside trails that fan out. If you’re an avid cyclist, you could try the 53km cycle route to Palma. The journey’s likely to take you about two hours at a good pace, and you’ll go over the southern cliffs with views of the bay of Palma. Plus, you can stop off for a quick dip at the beaches en route. If you’d rather keep things casual, there are plenty of gentler routes to try, too.
Close to the capital
The lively city of Palma is just over a 20-minute drive from here – so it’s easy to tick off in a day. Check out the castle’s courtyard for some of the city’s best views, or spend hours wandering around the trendy art museums. Then there’s the main eye-catching sight – the huge cathedral that dominates the skyline near the bay.
