El Rompido holidays
Jump to sections
Secluded beaches, traditional village, protected marshlands – El Rompido holidays serve up an authentic slice of southern Spain.
Spain at its simplest
One of the Costa de la Luz’s least developed resorts, El Rompido is so unhurried that coming here feels like you’ve landed on another planet. The fishing village has one of Spain’s most scenic settings. It sits watch over the Piedras River and a spit of land known as the Flecha del Rompido. The surrounding marshlands are all protected, too, so the bird-watching’s out of this world.
Untouched beaches
The beach in the heart of the village is wide and sandy. But it’s more fishing boat than lounger territory. That’s not to say it’s not worth a visit, though – the seafront cafés are perfect for fishermen-watching. Sunbathers, meanwhile, flock to the Flecha del Rompido – a long, sandbar, in between the Piedras River and the ocean. As far as beaches go, though, it’s a peaceful patch.
Seafood and sightseeing
El Rompido’s not exactly a Benidorm, but there’s still lots to do. The centre’s a medley of down-to-earth tapas bars and seafood restaurants. Plus, you can polish your putting skills at the 18-hole golf course. And don’t neglect that guidebook. Dedicate a day to historic Seville or Cartaya. The latter’s only 10 minutes’ drive away. And, en route to its Roman castle and bustling market, you’ll pass the Aquapolis waterpark.
