Skala Potamias holidays
Jump to sections
Holidays to Skala Potamius take you to a fantastic beach, and include village museums, traditional tavernas and trips to Thassos Town.
Simple pleasures
Skala Potamius sits quietly on the east coast of Thassos, framed by mountains, olive groves and pine forests. It’s a real wind-down kind of place, with a small harbour where the friendly bars and tavernas hang out. Up the mountainside is the whitewashed village of Potamia, and just down the road is the island capital, Thassos Town. Here, though, it’s all about the long sandy beach.
Postcard-perfect beach
Golden Beach is said to be one of the best beaches in Greece. It’s a half-moon of soft sand that curves for 2 kilometres around to Chrysi Ammouida – AKA Golden Coast – where the watersports are waiting. Two Blue Flags wave proudly along the stretch, and the warm emerald sea beckons paddlers and swimmers. Sunloungers, bars and restaurants mean there won’t be any hurry to leave either.
Daytrips to Thassos Town
Thassos Town, AKA Limenas, is the island’s laid-back capital and it’s only about 15 minutes’ drive away. The place wears its ancient history on its sleeve, with ruins everywhere you turn. For starters, there’s the old harbour and what’s left of the agora, or marketplace. Then there’s the gladiators’ old stomping ground, the amphitheatre – walks uphill from here take you to the acropolis and sanctuary of Athena where you’ll get a wide-screen view of the town below.
