Holidays to Agios Stefanos give you days on the beach, dinners overlooking the sea, and time in Mykonos' cosmopolitan capital.
The whitewashed town of Agios Stefanos runs parallel to a sweep of golden sand on Mykonos’ north-west coast. Most of the beach is furnished with parasols and watersports huts, but, walk down to the far southern end of it, and you’ll only share towel space with the seagulls.
Beyond the beach, you’ve got countless restaurants, cafés, and ice-cream parlours to choose from. The cuisine tends to centre on local food, although you’ll find an Irish bar or two serving pie and chips with pints of Guinness. The nightlife here is really low-key, although the lively capital, Mykonos Town, is just a five-minute taxi ride away.
It’s been occupied by everyone from the Byzantines to the Venetians, but Mykonos Town still looks classically Greek. Houses are whitewashed, churches are topped with sea-blue cupolas, and bougainvillea spills over balconies. That said, the town has a thoroughly modern, see-and-be-seen reputation. Its high-end restaurants and elegant bars have attracted everyone from Madonna to the Kardashians.
