Vasilias holidays
Jump to sections
Holidays to Vasilias take you to the Greek island of Skiathos for relaxed beach days, and evenings out in nearby Skiathos Town.
A great escape
Vasilias is a seaside village backed by pine-clad hills on the southern coast of Skiathos. Whitewashed houses with terracotta roofs dot the landscape of this small, peaceful spot, where locals catch up on gossip at the village shop. There’s an equally undisturbed vibe to be found on the long, sandy beach. And handily – when you want lively bars and restaurants – the capital Skiathos Town is literally just up the road.
A beach choice
All the beaches along the south of Skiathos are sandy. There’s Vasilias Beach itself, a quiet little spot with shallow waters and enough sunloungers and thatched umbrellas to go around. A 10-minute walk along the coast takes you to the small and lively Megali Ammos Beach – it has two rows of sunbeds all along the sand and little shady areas in the pine-clad hills behind. And it’s a 10-minute drive to the Blue Flag sands of Koukounaries Beach.
Daytrips to Skiathos Town
The capital, Skiathos Town, is just 5 minutes’ drive away. Most visitors here like to pop into the House of Papadiamantis to learn about the town’s famous author, Alexandros Papadiamantis, whose former home is now this museum. There’s a room set out just as it was in the 19th-century, plus exhibitions on books he wrote on Skiathos life. Elsewhere, there’s a bustling shopping street with his name on it.
