Just returned from 2 weeks at Mike's Hotel. We stayed in a self catering apartment in the pool complex. The room was excellent with comfortable beds and hot shower. We had a lovely, albeit partial, sea view. The pool area was spotless with plenty of sunbeds and parasols - no need to rush to get the best spots. The pool bar was excellent with reasonably priced drinks served by very friendly staff, led by Manos. Maleme itself is very quiet with a handful of other hotels and restaurants. We sampled 4 or 5 restaurants during our stay and the menus were all fairly similar and the quality of food good. We also used the restaurant in Mike's hotel 4 or 5 times and the food was excellent - especially the daily specials, and also rather cheaper than the sea-front restaurants. We took the bus into Chania to see the Venetian Harbour, and another bus trip to Kolimbari to visit the monastery. Both were worthwhile. We also took the land train "Grand Canyon" tour to Kerissos (?) which was a pleasant, if unspectacular, trip. We also walked to the German cemetery which has lovely views over the bay. Despite a couple of days of unseasonal weather we had a lovely relaxed holiday in a quiet location and will definitely return in the future.More
Have stayed there about six times The host's are great and the food is good nothing more to say really We will go back soon I think October was the best time we have been there much quieter and the temperature was just perfectMore
Absolutely loved it
I don't think my review can give this place justice. It is definately one of the best places we have stayed in. Excellent value excellent staff excellent rooms and very relaxing. The pool area is fab always plenty of sunbeds. The pool bar menu is limited but what they serve is so good don't make the mistake of ordering a salad each they are always more than enough for two. Watch out for the free Raki it will definately brighten your day. The food in the restaurant just up the hill must not be missed the specials each day are excellent and always followed by free sweets fruit and more Raki. Have already booked for 2018More
fabulous relaxing time
we returned from Mike's on the 17th October after 2 weeks. Well what can I say about this hotel that hasn't already been said. Absolutely loved this place & the family that run it. Sophia "tonight's special is" & her brother Manos "I know nothing" are fabulous hosts. I have never returned from a holiday so relaxed. No rush for sunbeds (it was end of season but apparently it's the same throughout the season). We stayed on a B&B basis but stayed in the appartments by the pool. Walk upto hotel for breakfast was good & freshened you up in a morning. Buffet breakfast for us was very adequate & enough to choose from. Appartment was brilliant, kept so clean every day but Sunday in fact everywhere was in really good clean order for the end of the season, have seen some places not as good at beginning of a season !!!. Very accessible by local regular bus service to many place & especially Chania town & harbour, a must place to visit. Another bonus for this place is you can actually drink the tap water !!! We will definitely return hopefully same time next year but can not commit till later on so just hope there will be rooms left. Can only say a big THANKYOU to Mike, Sophia & Manos for a wonderful time, such a lovely family & hotel. Love to you all & hope the building work goes wellMore
First visit to Mike's, and it won't be the last
It is very difficult to find anything new to say about Mike’s as it has all been said before, and I’m not surprised people return there year after year. We have just returned from two weeks in October, right at the end of their season, and we enjoyed our visit so much that have already booked for next year! It was fairly quiet, but that was what we expected. If we had wanted otherwise, we would have gone in August! We stayed in a superior apartment with sea view, and couldn’t fault it. It was spotlessly cleaned regularly and we felt the extra we paid for the sea view was well worth it. The shower was superb, the room was huge and very comfortable! The food served at the hotel’s restaurant was always good and the portions were huge, with friendly service from Sofia and Lefteris. If I had any criticism, it would be that the evening dinner menu was not as varied as some of the local restaurants and tavernas. Our favourite of the local restaurants was The Wave, with Taverna Maleme and Ageri a close second and third. We had some good food at Mythos too, but were disappointed by the service. The service at the pool bar from Manos, Maria and Katherine was faultless, both in the day and in the evening. We gradually worked our way through their extensive cocktail menu during the two weeks of our stay. We hired a car from Kappa Cars for seven days, and explored the western end of the island. Of particular note were our visits to the monasteries at Chrysoskalitissa and Tzagarolon, the freshwater Lake Kournas, and the ruins at Ancient Aptera. We took an organised excursion to Gramvousa Island and Balos lagoon, but that was on the only rainy day of our visit, so we didn’t see it at its best. The management and staff at Mike’s deserve a commendation (and an increase in star rating?) for the way they run the hotel and apartments, and we are looking forward to next year already!More
