Holidays to Plat show off Croatia's tranquil side – there's sweeping countryside and hardly any evidence of tourism.
Plat is sandwiched between mountain peaks and pebbly bays on Croatia’s Dubrovnik Riviera. It’s still fairly unknown on the travel circuit, so it’s pin-drop peaceful. You’ll find one shop, a single pizzeria, and only a few hotels with a front-row view of the Adriatic Sea.
Even in the summer months, the town’s main beach is ultra-quiet. It curves around a horseshoe-shaped bay in a ribbon of sand and pebble, and is nicely devoid of drinks kiosks and watersports. You can hire sunbeds and umbrellas down by the shore.
You can’t visit this part of Croatia without spending some time in Dubrovnik. The age-old city is just a 15-minute drive, or 30-minute boat ride, from Plat, and its prettiness has earned it its ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’ nickname. Here, cobbled alleyways and sleepy squares give way to honey-stoned Medieval buildings.
