The Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort

We have just spent 3 nights at this great hotel. We loved our ocean view suite which had the best view, was spacious and beautiful decorated. Staff was very very friendly always helpful, smiling and helpful. Especially the Samaki restaurant was great. We enjoyed a lovely seafood plate. The beach was clean, wide and beautiful- the best we saw in that area. In general there is a great atmosphere at this hotel. It is not 5 star - but 4 very big star with a great personal service and a cosy atmosphere. We highly recommend this hotel in Zanzibar ❤️🌴☀️

We were a group of 9 persons (5 adults, 4 children) who stayed for a week at this very nice all inclusive hotel. We had big rooms overlooking the garden and pools. The nice pool design and great beachfront (best beaches in Zanzibar, facing the sunset) was the main reason for us choosing this hotel over others hotels in the area. The staff is excellent, as are the restaurants. As there are many Italians at this hotel, you have a wide variety of italian food on offer, but there are plenty of other choices available. The resort is spacious, and with a good variation, as you can relax by the different pools, use the beach chairs overlooking the beautiful beach or participate in the different activities on offer for children or adults. When celebrating my birthday, they made special arrangements for our group, and we had a great celebration. We also used the East African Diving company that has an office on the resort when booking diving and snorkelling, and had a memorable day at the Mnemba atoll. If you want diving lessons during your stay, it may be advisable to book in advance, to ensure that you have an instructor available.

1. the rooms are very poorly maintained. in the sleeping room, there is a strong smell of mildew and the bathrooms are just one big shame, nothing to do with a 5-star hotel. rusty taps, broken floors, dirty walls with a lot of mildew. after checking with other people we realized that this description was suitable for other rooms as well. pictures attached. 2. check out time - its important for you to know, that the check out time is 10:00 AM. if late check out is requested, be aware that the cost is 200$!!!. no other hotel nearby ask for this amount. even diamond hotel didn't ask anything for a late check out according to our friends. as an alternative to the late checkout, the hotel suggested as to use the spa shower. this shower was in an open room with a plastic curtain which is super small and with a problem of drainage. we were needed to wait in line with a lot more other couples to use this damaged shower(only 1 shower). when we tried to speak with the stuff to allow us to check out even 1 hour later we faced a strict and unpleasant response. 3. The food was just ok don't expect any gourmet, and the swimming pools felt somewhat unclean. in conclusion - this is definitely not a 5-star standard hotel. choose the gold hotel or diamond hotel instead.
