Galu Beach holidays

Diani Beach, Kenya

Holidays to Galu Beach are your gateway to Kenya’s world-famous coastline and wildlife.

A slice of Kenya’s coastline

There’s a reason Kenya’s southern coast is world famous. It lines up the blue hues of the Indian Ocean with shorelines of ivory-coloured sand. It’s no wonder, then, that this picture-perfect destination attracts supermodel glamour. Malindi’s seaside is where Naomi Campbell now calls home, while Mombasa and Diani Beach attract tourists from around the world. Fifteen minutes further south is Galu Beach, a quieter, but no-less-beautiful stretch of sand that sits beside twisty mangroves, fishing villages and a sacred forest.

A beach off the beaten track

Galu Beach is unassuming, under the radar even. But don’t let its relatively low profile fool you – this secluded stretch of sand can hold its own. Galu Beach has what few destinations can offer – the spaciousness to match its picturesque seafront. With powder-white sands that dissolve into the Indian Ocean and shorelines speckled with palms groves, this beach really gets you away from the hustle and bustle. And as for nights of live music and dancing– well, they’re not entirely off the table. You’ll want to head to Diani Beach, Galu’s rowdier neighbour for that. A 20-minute drive will take you right to the beachfront for cocktails and dancing after dark.

Nature on tap

Despite it’s away-from-it-all feel, Galu Beach is a handy base for touring the sights of Kenya’s south-east. Meet the monkeys at Colobus Conservation, where Angolan and black-and-white Colobus monkeys roam free. The centre also tells you plight of the region’s endangered species, and it’s only a five-minute drive away. For views overlooking one of the largest coastal forests in East Africa, head west to Shimba Hills. It’s home to half of the country’s rarest plants, plus a waterfall for good measure. Finally, no trip to Kenya would be complete without a visit to Mombasa, the nation’s historic port town. Drive north along the scenic coastline, and you’ll arrive in Kenya’s second city in just over an hour.
