Framed by sand dunes and hugging Praia de Salines Beach, the ClubHotel Riu Karamboa is a total retreat.
The ClubHotel Riu Karamboa has a real desert oasis feel to it. Looks-wise, the spacious property is reminiscent of a sultan’s palace – expect domed ceilings and arched windows.
Everything from the suite rooms – with their separate lounge areas and dark-wood furnishings – to the sprawling pool area lives up to the hotel’s 5-star standards.

Agree with what a lot of peopld have said already. Food ok, hot and plentiful, not enough shade around pool and beds a bit tatty. Service great and hotel clean. It's not five star tui, more three plus. Weather great in November. Please remember this a very poor country and only up and coming now. The people here have very little. Beaches are amazing, santa monica beach in particular. Nothing there but miles of beach, ten years time it will be all built on, sad but locals welcoming of it. Hotel needs a refurbishment, new pool side beds and beds in room not amazing, I feel all hotel beds should have a mattress protector. Only one pillow each, but we asked for more. Pool side service would be good I agree re other persons review. We were given room over looking building works, despite saying we were on honeymoon and asking for ni a room, appreciated they can't guarantee but thought they may have tried. They moved us straight away to internal facing room. Very spacious. All in all a good week in sun and just whar we needed. Oh, one more thing, you have to get up to get a sun bed if yuy want one that gives you any shade in afternoon, which we did. More
Nice hotel, shame about some of the other guests
This place is nice and well ordered. Staff is friendly and nothing is too much trouble. All is professionally done and run. The compound is nice, with fun activities and nice pools. Rooms are nice and clean (watch out for the "stray" cats though if you're on the groundfloor level and allergic). So, what guests do you ask? Those who, despite strictly speaking being adults, don't know NOT to take from the buffet with their fingers and especially that lady who picked the food, then licked her fingers to see what the taste was like and then put the food back. Big yuck! I nearly vomited, but fortunately the staff saw it too and took away the tray pronto. That said, the Island need some developing, as there really isn't much to do anywhere...More
Very enjoyable week
We returned on Tuesday from a very relaxing week in the lovely warm weather. To start with we were not too happy with our room (in the block furthest to the left as you face the sea) because it overlooked the building site next door so that I didn't want to use the balcony or even open the curtains. However we were able to move into a new room (in the first block on the left) for our second night and the rest of the holiday - dealt with by very courteous and helpful staff. Food and drinks are very good with lots of choice. The Asian speciality restaurant was excellent - really tasty sushi - and worth booking early but not so much the African or Cape Verdean restaurants where the food is still of good quality but not very different from what was available in the main buffet restaurant. The wine on tap was pretty average but grew on you! All the restaurant staff were friendly and very efficient at turning tables at breakfast where outside tables are at a premium. Breakfast choices were particularly good but we have no complaints about the quality and range of any of the food on offer and all staff had a high regard for food hygiene. Only three things (two minor and one more annoying) bothered us : We would have appreciated a few more shady spots around the pool when we had too much sun because although there was a nice breeze and some cloud the sun is very hot and we got quite pink! Perhaps a few more parasols would be good but we discovered that the jacuzzi area in the wellness centre is practically empty before 4pm and was a perfect place to escape the midday sun (only 6 sun beds there though so we decided to wait until we got home before commenting!) Some of the beach sun beds were a bit old and quite badly broken so probably should have been repaired or taken away. I would have appreciated more non- smoking areas particularly near the restaurant, reception and "theatre" - we watched one of the shows from the outside bar terrace and the smell of smoke all around was unpleasant and was on my clothes in the morning. Coming from a place where there is no smoking in public places and certainly not in restaurants it felt like we were back in the 80s - I'm not sure if this was just smokers taking full advantage of the opportunity to do so or that there were fewer non smoking tables. Those comments make it look like we are moaning but really it's just a suggestion for improvements and we did have a fantastic holiday! One final mention to the lovely lady managing (I think) the bar in Reception. She was always friendly, welcoming and efficient and was excellent at balancing a rum bottle on her head! Sorry we can't remember her name ....More
Just returned home from what I can say was a gem of a mini holiday. Was literally 5 mins travel from the airport, was greeted with a cold drink in reception, signing in was quick and easy. Room was spacious and clean. Had a sea view room, which was awesome. Cleanliness of hotel : high standard Food : good standard Entertainment : good standard Beach : very high standard As seen , I’m very impressed with the hotel, however there was 2 things I feel that would better the Karamboa, waiting on services around the beach and pool areas ( but I guess that’s no biggy ) the other which I feel is a must is a need for security to clamp down on the guys trying to sell you stuff on the beach, it’s meant to be private, though you get countless guys coming over to your lounger throughout the day. That’s my only gripe from a wonderful stay, would I go back? ABSOLUTELY More

This was my first ever all inclusive holiday, and I have to say from the moment I got there it was wonderful. The first night my boyfriend and I arrived (October 29th) was very cloudy, and we were a bit worried we'd brought the weather with us from England! But by the next morning it was already blue skies, sunny and hot hot hot. This was a family holiday for my boyfriends, mothers 50th birthday. There was 6 of us, ages ranging from 13-50, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm vegetarian and even though there weren't as many options for me as there was for the meat eaters, I can't complain as there was a different pasta dish to try most days. The people who are complaining about it being the same, repetitive boring food are the types of people to load up their plates with the same foods every day. If you slowly work your way through the options on different nights, it won't be as repetitive. We went on 3 excursions while we were there, the 4 hour quad biking, the 2 hour quad biking and the snorkelling! All 3 we thoroughly enjoyed. The cats don't bother you if you leave them be, if you feed them thats when they sit by and beg, but they never jump up at you or anything like that. Don't be alarmed by the red flag, we went in the sea on red flag days and didn't notice a difference from the yellow flag, if you get far enough out that you don't get knocked down by the waves it's a lot of fun to ride the waves as they come in! The red flag is just to cover their backs if any accidents happen. Also, the building work is not noticeable at all, my boyfriend and I were looking right onto it in room 2020 and it didn't bother us at all. Overall, thank you RIU for a wonderful holiday.More
