Kranjska Gora holidays

Kranjska Gora is relatively small and its restaurants are spread out, so you can incorporate them into your walks through the pretty, traditional town. A local speciality is buckwheat fritters with cottage cheese, and you must try kremšnita, Bled's famous cream cake.

There are plenty of coffee shops in town selling refreshments and snacks. After a day of strolling, what better way to relax than with a slice of cake or strudel alongside a cup of English tea?

There’s only one bus stop in Kranjska Gora, and it’s located between the Hotel Skipass and the Pension Lipa. From here, a frequent bus service runs to nearby resorts including Bled.

Between July and August, the Vitranc 1 chairlift operates daily from 9am to 5pm. In May, June and September it only operates three days a week. The lift takes you halfway up the mountain, giving you beautiful views of the Julian Alps and Triglav National Park.

The nearest station to Kranjska Gora is Jesenice, which can be accessed by a bus that runs once an hour. From the station you can reach various parts of Slovenia, as well as some cities in Austria.

Kranjska Gora is a relatively small town – you can walk from one end to the other in around 15 minutes – with a car-free main square full of pavement cafés to tickle your fancy.

With the Julian Alps and Triglav National Park on your doorstep, Kranjska Gora is an excellent place to explore on foot. If you want to stay close to town, you can stroll to Lake Jasna to see the mythical Zlatorog statue, or simply wander through the nearby forests and meadows. For something a bit different, the Zelenci Nature Reserve is home to many unusual animals and plants, and is a lovely place to spend the day. More demanding walks will take you up to the Vršič Pass, across the border to Italy or Austria, or nearby peaks.

This easygoing walk is a good one for your first day in Kranjska Gora. Head south out of town and follow the trail through the trees. The bridge over the River Pisnica is a picturesque place to stop for photos and, from there, it’s less that 200m to Lake Jasna. Spend some time strolling around the lake, among the bridges, pontoons and jumping towers – all backed by beautiful views of the Julian Alps.

A walk through the meadows is sure to put a smile on any face. From town, head north and follow route 3. Wander along the path that runs parallel to the river – and keep an eye out for the ostrich that lives in a pen nearby. When you reach Podkoren, you can stop at a café for a drink and snack before starting back.
